Report: Corona increases demand for WhatsApp and Facebook

A new report by market research firm Kontar showed that in the face of global efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19 (Covid-19), the use of WhatsApp instant messenger has increased dramatically.

The Cantar Report was released after a previous report that also showed an increase in the use of the social network, which has become a means for users who are forced to communicate with their families, friends and colleagues at home.

According to the report - from March 14 to 24 this year, there are over 25,000 consumers in 30 markets - WhatsApp usage increased by 40% due to the virus (Covid-19).

WhatsApp is said to have grown from the first 27% in the early days of the HIV epidemic by 40% to the current average of about 41% and in countries to 51% in the advanced stages of the virus transmission. . However, usage of apps in a country like Spain has increased significantly by 76%.

The report also found that among all messaging systems, the growth in utilization was greater in the 18-34 age group. Additionally, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram usage in the same demographic data increased by more than 40%. According to (Kantar), Facebook usage increased by 37% overall, while the use of local social media applications in China increased by 58%.

Despite the increased use of media, consumers stated that they did not trust these platforms to obtain important information about (Covid-19). National news channels and government agency sites are the best options because they think they are affected by 58% and 48%. Visitors are "trustworthy" news or information sources. 11% of respondents believed that "trustworthy" connections can receive information.
