| SmartThings is now compatible with Nest devices |
With Samsung's SmartThings platform, which will support Google Nest devices from January 2021, Google and Samsung are integrating the smart home platforms for the first time.
When the company developed these products, they worked together to build a bridge between smart home devices like cameras and thermostats.
Eligible device owners must first obtain Works With SmartThings certification in order to use separate software to manage their Google Nest products.
After integration begins next month, all Google Nest products can be controlled via the SmartThings platform and used with SmartThings devices.
The partnership strengthens the smart home platform of Samsung, the leading manufacturer of smart home device management centers on the same network.
Samsung acquired SmartThings for $ 200 million in 2014 because the company can help smart home products communicate using various protocol standards.
Since then, SmartThings has continued to grow and support thousands of products as Samsung has helped the platform integrate with nearly every smart home brand on the market and Google remains a notable exception.
Samsung said its platform currently has more than 120 approved brands and over 63 million active users.
Samsung says the new partnership with Google means that Nest devices can be integrated into SmartThings scenes to set automatic controls for multiple devices at the same time.
The integration also means that the Samsung TV and refrigerator (called Family Hub) supports streaming from Nest cameras and other devices.
The SmartThings platform app is preinstalled on Samsung Galaxy devices. In addition to the App Store for Apple products, it can also be used in the Google Store for Android phones.
