Amazon is buying used commercial aircraft for the first time

Amazon bought second-hand Boeing 767-300 jets from Delta Airlines and WestJet, the first e-commerce giant.

Over the years, the company has steadily expanded its air freight capacity through charter agreements. However, this is the first time that Amazon has owned its own jets.

The deal came at a time when aircraft prices were declining due to the Coronavirus epidemic.

Due to reduced passenger demand, airlines around the world are calling for closure and airlines are making efforts to reduce their fleets.

The company announced that the products it bought include seven used aircraft from Delta Air Lines and four used aircraft from WestJet, which will join the Amazon network in 2022.

"Our goal is to continue serving customers in the United States as expected at Amazon, and purchasing aircraft is a step in that direction. The next step," said Sarah Rhodes, vice president of Amazon Global Airlines.

"The combination of chartered and owned aircraft in the growing fleet allows us to better manage our operations and keep pace with our customers' engagements," she added.

Amazon launched its fleet in 2016 with the assumption that it will have more than 85 leased and owned aircraft by 2022.

According to an analysis a year ago, Amazon increased the pace of ownership across the supply chain and ended its relationships with companies like FedEx and UPS, with more than half of the packages accepted in the United States.

The newly purchased aircraft is designed to speed up delivery of packages purchased via Amazon. Orders from Amazon have reached an all-time high due to the pandemic.

The company said: It will continue to rely on external operators to operate these new aircraft.

In the near future, Amazon will become a major player in the transportation world. As one of the leading delivery and logistics companies in history, Amazon will play an important role in how people and things move in the world. Globalism.

Some of the recent deals show the company has ambitions beyond parcel delivery.

Amazon recently acquired Zoox, a self-driving car startup that rolled out prototypes of its self-driving cars.

The company has also participated in several rounds of financing for electric car company Rivian, which has designed battery-powered trucks to deliver the e-commerce giant.

Aurora, the new autonomous car and truck company, has received $ 530 million in financing.
