MediaTek releases Dimensity 1100 and 1200 chips

Taiwanese MediaTek introduced the Dimensity 1100 and Dimensity 1200 chips for mainstream 5G phones.

A few years ago, the main mobile processors focused mostly on Qualcomm, Samsung and Huawei.

This Taiwanese company actively attempted to enter the field a few years ago with the Helio X series. In November 2019, the new Dimensity 1000 for improvement was introduced and in May 2020 Dimensity 1000 Plus.

MediaTek made these chips based on TSMC 6nm process. This is an upgrade to the 7nm process used to make the Dimensity 1000 Plus.

The Dimensity 1200 and Dimensity 1100 have built-in 5G modems that support 5G NSA and SA modes, dynamic spectrum DSS sharing, dual standby 5G dual SIM cards, and VoNR support.

There is also a 5G HSR mode and a 5G upload mode, which can be used to achieve more reliable 5G network connection.

Both have eight cores, but there is almost no difference between the two: the Dimensity 1200 has one core Cortex-A78 at 3 GHz, while the other three performance cores are Cortex-A78 at 2.6 GHz.

Dimensity 1100 has four power cores while the other four are 2.0GHz Cortex-A55.

There is a GPU with 9 GPU cores from the ARM Mali-G77-GPU. These cores support HyperEngine 3.0 gaming technology, including support for 5G connectivity and data syncing.

In addition to enhanced multi-touch functionality to improve touch screen response, the full suite also supports ray tracing in games and augmented reality applications as well as superior power saving in hotspots.

Dimensity 1200 supports FHD + at 168Hz, Dimensity 1100 supports FHD + at 144Hz, and QHD + up to 90Hz.

These two groups also support HDR10 + video playback and AV1 video decoding, Bluetooth 5.2, true ultra-low latency wireless stereo and LC3 encoding, enabling high-quality streaming and music delay. Minimum thanks to wireless headphones.

The Dimensity 1200's 5-core ISP processor supports image sensors up to 200 MP (single) or up to 32 MP + 16 MP (dual) and provides 4K HDR video recording with a wider dynamic range.

The Dimensity 1100's 5-core ISP processor supports image sensors up to 108 MP (single) or 32 MP + 16 MP (dual) and 4K HDR video recording with the highest dynamic range.

Both support AI functions of the camera, such as for example: AI night panoramas, AI multi-player bokeh, AI noise reduction, HDR function, and AI-enhanced video playback function

There is also a new hexa-core processor for artificial intelligence called MediaTek APU 3.0 for AI computing. Improved task scheduling can reduce latency and improve energy efficiency.

The first devices with the new Dimensity 1100 and Dimensity 1200 chipsets will come onto the market at the end of the first quarter of 2021. Xiaomi and Vivo OPPO have shown interest in these new chips.
