Microsoft back off raising Xbox Live Gold prices

After Microsoft began notifying existing members of some changes in the market, it reversed its decision yesterday to increase the price of Xbox Live Gold subscriptions.

The company announced a price hike last Friday that would double the annual service fee required to play online games on Xbox to $ 120 for many users.

Microsoft says now: the price will remain the same. In addition, the company decided to withdraw the subscription to free games in order to make Xbox Live compatible with Sony and Nintendo online services.

Popular free games (such as Fortnite) can be played on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch platforms without an online subscription. However, you still need to subscribe to Xbox. Microsoft said it is working hard to introduce this change as soon as possible in the coming months.

Microsoft stated that this was a mistake because communicating and playing with friends is an important part of the game and the company has failed to meet the expectations of the players who depend on it every day. So they decided not to change the Xbox Live Gold price.

She said, "You no longer need an Xbox Live Gold membership to play free games on Xbox and we are working hard to make this change as soon as possible in the coming months."

She added: If you are an Xbox Live Gold member, the renewal price will remain the same, and new and existing members can still enjoy the subscription with the paid rate today, which is $ 10 per member per month or $ 60 for 12 months.

Lots of people had hoped and expected that Microsoft would waive Xbox Live fees entirely or at least allow free games access to free multiplayer functionality on Xbox platforms.

Over the past few years, Microsoft has focused on its Xbox Game Pass subscription service, which includes an Ultimate tier that includes access to Xbox Live Gold.

While the Xbox Game Pass subscription service offers great value to many gamers, the high price of gold is causing people to pay for more expensive services.

Microsoft said: The price of Xbox Live Gold has not changed in many markets for many years and has not changed in some markets for more than 10 years.

The move appears to be aimed at luring Xbox Live subscribers into Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which provides Xbox Live Gold access, xCloud streaming service, and access to over 100 games.
