YouTube supports HDR support on the Xbox One platform

YouTube has finally enabled support for HDR videos on Microsoft's Xbox.

Supports playback on current Xbox One S and Xbox One X platforms, as well as newer platforms (such as Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S).

As long as you have a TV or projector that can display HDR videos, the YouTube app will automatically switch to output compatible content.

The YouTube app on Xbox has never supported HDR video, although the technology has been available on PlayStation 4 since 2019.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X launched in November, but no YouTube app supports this technology, and the PS5 still doesn't support this feature on the PS4.

By enabling Nerd Statistics Box, you can ensure that the YouTube app on Xbox will function normally with HDR video technology.

The control panel indicates that the video is being streamed via the VP9-2 codec. Many TVs also display HDR prompts or switch to HDR mode when playing content.

YouTube videos supporting this technology are noticeably brighter and more colorful. Google has not confirmed if there are any plans to support AV1 videos in the YouTube app on Xbox.

The maximum resolution is platform-dependent, with the Xbox Series X supporting 4K resolution at 60 fps, while the Xbox One S offers 1440 pixels at 60 fps.

Some of the best HDR video content on YouTube is still testing videos uploaded a few years ago.

More and more trailers and videos are featured with HDR video technology options, but most creators don't use HDR to download content.
