| Google is bringing Live Captions to the Chrome browser |
Google is expanding its real-time (real-time) translation feature from Pixel phones to all Chrome browser users.
Real-time closed captions feature uses machine learning to create closed captions for previously unseen video or audio clips, making it easier for deaf or hard of hearing people to access the Internet.
When this option is selected and you see or hear what people are talking about, real-time translation will automatically appear in a small box floating at the bottom of the browser.
There is a slight delay in displaying words and you may notice rapid or choppy speech errors. However, the overall feature is just as impressive as it was first seen on Pixel phones in 2019.
Subtitles are displayed as silent or low-level audio, so you can play the video or audio broadcast without disturbing other people around you.
Google said: Live translation can also work offline and currently only supports English.
This feature can be used with YouTube videos, Twitch Radio, podcast players, and even music streaming services (such as Spotify) in the Chrome browser.
Google also said: Real-time closed captions apply to audio and video files stored on the device's storage device (if opened in Chrome).
This feature can be enabled from the latest version of the Chrome browser by alternately accessing the Settings, Advanced, and Accessibility sections.
When this feature is enabled, the Chrome browser will download speech recognition files and display the translation the next time you speak.
This feature was originally introduced in the beta version of Android Q, but it is only available on some Pixel and Samsung phones so far.
After entering the Chrome browser, translations can be used in real time by a wider audience.
This feature is now available through the Chrome browser for Windows, Mac, and Linux. According to Google, this feature will soon be available in Chrome OS as well.
