| Microsoft released a new webcam in the spring |
Microsoft reportedly plans to release a new webcam in the spring after showing its first such camera in 2006.
The software giant previously offered several webcams under the LifeCam brand, but has not significantly modernized them for ten years.
Since the company is several years old, Microsoft is gearing up for a Surface-style event this spring.
The company is expected to announce an update for the Surface Laptop, but the company has other accessories on the agenda, including a new camera.
It says: The upcoming camera has a protective cover and supports HDR.
Although Microsoft is using the USB-C 4K webcam over the Surface Hub 2, rumors have circulated that the new webcam is ignoring 4K support.
It is not clear what resolution is supported or whether Windows Hello facial recognition is supported.
It remains to be seen whether Microsoft will use the Surface brand with the new webcam.
Panos Panay, president of Microsoft Windows and Devices, hinted during 2018 that the company was discussing launching the Surface branded cameras.

It should be noted that this is not the first time that rumors spread that Microsoft will launch a new webcam.
According to reports, two new cameras will arrive in 2019, one for Windows and the other for Xbox.

Webcams are fast becoming a device in 2020 as consumers flock to buy devices to work from home during the pandemic.
