DJI Makes Cine Camera with Focus Lidar

Drone maker DJI has announced the release of a built-in axis video camera that can record up to 8K resolution and uses a LiDAR rangefinder for a clearer, faster and more reliable focusing experience.

The camera is called Ronin 4D. Although it is aimed directly at professionals. But it has several important functions and explains that DJI is developing its camera technology outside of drones as well.

The Ronin 4D is called the Zenmuse X9, and it is an interchangeable full-frame lens suitable for DJI DL and Leica systems.

It has 9 built-in ND filters to control solar radiation. The 6K model can record at 6K 60 fps and 4K 120 fps. The 8K model can record in 8K resolution at 75 frames per second.

Zenmuse X9 can also record in RAW or 422HQ format from ProRes or H.264. And DJI's Zenmuse camera is primarily designed to fly in their drones. But the company said the Zenmuse X9 is specifically designed for the Ronin 4D.

The company announced that the 6K version of Ronin 4D will be available in December and that the 8K version will be available later.

A number of accessories will also come, including a wireless monitoring system (which also allows remote control of camera settings and stabilizer movement, making the camera operator's job easier), focus motors, and even allow adjustment of a lens with manual focus to use the lidar system.

For the integrated axis, the company claims that it is able to be stabilized along four axes (hence the name 4D), including from top to bottom.

According to the company, this should help reduce camera shake or shake while walking or running. You can use a different installation technique for this. But this requires great skill.

DJI states that the Ronin 4D is lighter and smaller than most cameras mounted on 3-axis stabilizers.

Unlike the Osmo camera system and even some Ronin devices, the Ronin 4D is not aimed at consumers. The 6K version costs $7,200 and the 8K version costs $11,500. Both come with a hub, camera, lidar range finder, screen, grip, top handle, carrying case, and battery (the 8K camera also comes with a 1TB solid state drive).
