Apple plans to launch a mixed reality device in 2022

In the latest issue of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gorman talks about a long-rumored mixed reality device that could hit the market as early as next year.

It's worth noting that this isn't the first time Gorman has reported on this mixed reality device. The company has been planning for a few years now and it looks like they're about to announce it.

“Apple plans to launch expensive devices with chips, displays, sensors and avatar-based functionality early next year,” Gorman said.

Earlier this year, a report claimed that this new mixed reality device could cost as much as $3,000, confirming Gorman's claim that the device is expensive.

Since the company has started porting users to the new M1 Pro and M1 Max chipsets, it's only a matter of time before the company integrates all of these pieces.

In his newsletter, Mark Gorman also discussed whether the company's new glasses allow gaming or focus exclusively on augmented reality.

While the new Mac has one of the most powerful chipsets ever, macOS is not a gaming platform.

And the arcade service continues to add more games. But the company itself still can't compete with Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo.

These glasses have both virtual and augmented reality capabilities, and Apple's goal is a mixed reality experience that can handle high-quality virtual reality games, Gorman said.

Apple's new mixed reality device coming soon

Gorman wrote: Apple's first headset to use mixed reality. This means that it has virtual reality and augmented reality capabilities. Although the game can be played in two environments, VR is required for high-performance games with great graphics. For the company's first headset, we envisioned a mixed reality experience. This experience enables handling of high-quality virtual reality games with fast chipsets and high-quality screens.

He said, "You might not see real augmented reality headsets for a few years." This coincides with recent comments from Tim Cook about his enthusiasm for the future of augmented reality.

The company is reported to be testing a display with a pixel density of 3,000 pixels per inch.
