Facebook officials face UK sanctions

A senior British official has criticized the company's predecessor, Meta Facebook, for renaming it and promised to criminalize the social media company's officials under the new law on harmful internet content.

The UK's Minister for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Nadine Dorries told lawmakers during an online safety law hearing that renaming would not help. If damage occurs, we will track it down.

Facebook calls Meta and says the brand is working on creating a so-called Meta-universe. Some criticized the move as an attempt to divert attention from recent problems.

After a series of discoveries by a former employee, the company faces one of the biggest crises in modern history. Most importantly, the company is aware of the negative impact of the Instagram app on teens.

Francis Hogan appeared in the British Parliament last month. She told lawmakers that regulators do not have enough time to deal with the spread of hate speech and other harmful content on Facebook.

Meta said the name change is related to what they call the Metaverse, a shared virtual reality where multiple users can interact with each other as avatars.

The company recently announced that it will hire 10,000 engineers across the European Union to help build the Metaverse.

Doris said META should allow these additional employees to focus on the task of complying with terms and conditions and removing malicious algorithms.

Changing the name on Facebook did not help

The UK government is implementing major reforms calling for social media companies to be held accountable for sharing harmful and illegal content on their platforms.

The law threatens fines of up to 10% of annual global sales or 18 million pounds ($24.2 million) for violations, whichever is greater.

According to the draft proposal. If social media company executives don't crack down on toxic substances, they could be prosecuted within two years.

However, Doris promised to speed up criminal penalties. She said that two years would not pass. I am looking forward to three to six months of criminal responsibility.

A group of politicians, led by Damian Collins, is currently reviewing the bill and is urging the committee to forward its recommendations to the government as soon as possible.

The tech giants said they are embracing regulation and investing heavily to improve the security of their platforms. According to its own information, Meta has 40,000 employees who specialize in platform security.

Earlier this year, Doris Oliver Dowden followed her up as Minister for Numbers in an unexpected cabinet reshuffle. In the past few weeks she has been ramping up her rhetoric about taking over the big tech companies.

He also called for an end to the misuse of the Internet after the murder of British MP David Amis, who was stabbed several times.

Some members of Parliament from the ruling Conservative Party believe that anonymity on social media platforms was the cause of Ames' death.
