Apple: Some iPhones automatically record Siri interactions

In 2019, Apple introduced a new option for users to opt out of sharing Siri recordings with the company for privacy reasons.

Although this option is still available in iOS 15, the option does not seem to work as expected. But the company fixed the bug in iOS 15.4.

The bug, which was first introduced in iOS 15, allows for automatic improvements to Siri and dictation settings, allowing businesses to record, save, and view your conversations with Siri.

The company said a vulnerability in older versions of iOS 15 caused recordings of users' conversations with Siri to be shared with the company, even if users didn't want to.

To avoid further problems, Apple has disabled Siri recording sharing for many users using iOS 15.2.

With the release of the second developer beta iOS 15.4, the company claims to have fixed the bug.

After you update your iPhone to iOS 15.4 beta, you will be asked if you want to help improve Siri and Dictation. It's about improving both services by allowing companies to review recordings of audio interactions.

If you opt out, your voice interactions with Siri or the voice dictation tool on your iPhone will no longer be recorded and shared with Apple.

Shortly after the company discovered the problem, the company deleted all the recordings that were accidentally released due to an error in its servers.

Apple will delete any records collected in error

"In iOS 15.2, while we fixed bugs introduced in iOS 15, we disabled advanced Siri and Dictation settings for many Siri users," the company said in a statement.

"This bug inadvertently enabled a small set of device settings," she added. Since the error was discovered, we have stopped testing and removed the received audio from all affected devices.

Apple uses recordings of people interacting with Siri to verify that the Assistant is responding correctly to requests in order to improve functionality.

You can turn the option to share Siri recordings with Apple on or off at any time. To do this, go to Settings, then Privacy, then Analytics and Improvements.

The second beta of iOS 15.4 is open to developers and public beta users. The official version should arrive this spring.
