BlackBerry: There is a new cyberattack every minute

A new report from BlackBerry Corporation highlights the scale of cyberattacks happening every day, at a time when it's almost impossible to get away.

According to BlackBerry, its AI-based prevention technology prevented more than 1.76 million malware-based attacks between September 2022 and November 2022, a number equivalent to more than one attack per minute.

The company found that the attacks targeted multiple industries, including automotive, manufacturing, healthcare and finance. The report noted the rapid development of attacks and changed the reporting system from annual to quarterly.

“Annual threat reports have always been a great way to gain insight into trends, but now more than ever, organizations need to make informed decisions and act promptly,” said Ismael Valenzuela, Vice President of Threat Research and Actionable Data at BlackBerry.

According to the report, the United States was the country most affected by cyberattacks during the reporting period, with nearly 1 million attacks, followed by Japan and Brazil.

BlackBerry also revealed details about the most affected and vulnerable operating systems, with Microsoft Windows topping the list as it still dominates the desktop market, at around 75.34%, according to the website (Statcounter).

Apple's macOS accounts for about 14.66% of the desktop operating system market, but BlackBerry is gaining popularity among companies because it is more secure.

It is now understood that companies and individuals, especially those with connected devices, should not only pay attention to network security but also be vigilant at all times.

Information security researchers have warned that a large number of Windows devices connected to the Internet still suffer from a critical vulnerability that Microsoft will fix in mid-2022.
