Casio Steps into New Territory: First Mechanical Watches Hit UK Shores

In a move that’s set to redefine its legacy, Casio—the brand synonymous with rugged digital watches like the G-Shock and tech-forward Edifice line—has unveiled its debut mechanical timepieces in the UK. Breaking from decades of quartz dominance, this bold pivot marks Casio’s entry into the intricate world of automatic movements, blending Japanese precision with classic horology.

The flagship model, the Edifice EFK-100D-2A, leads the charge. Designed for enthusiasts craving mechanical sophistication without sacrificing Casio’s signature durability, it features a sleek 44mm stainless steel case, sapphire-coated crystal, and an open-heart dial showcasing the oscillating balance wheel. Powered by a Japanese automatic movement (Caliber 6R35), it boasts a 70-hour power reserve and 100m water resistance—making it equally suited for boardrooms and weekend adventures.

"Mechanical watches represent a new chapter for Casio," says Hiroshi Nakamura, Casio’s Global Head of Timepiece Development. "We’ve spent years mastering quartz innovation, but there’s a growing appetite for craftsmanship and heritage. The EFK-100D-2A bridges our engineering ethos with timeless mechanics."

Priced at £499, the watch targets a niche between entry-level automatics and luxury segments. Analysts note Casio’s timing is strategic: the UK mechanical watch market grew 12% last year, fueled by younger collectors seeking affordable artistry.

Industry insiders see this as Casio democratizing high horology. "They’re leveraging scale to offer reliability at disruptive prices," says WatchWorld editor Elena Torres. "It’s a gateway for digital loyalists to embrace mechanics."

The collection launches online and at select UK retailers on August 20th, with pre-orders opening July 15th. Limited to 1,500 units globally, early adoption is expected.

For a brand built on digital innovation, Casio’s mechanical leap isn’t just a product launch—it’s a statement. As quartz and automatics now coexist under its roof, the watch world watches closely.
