Samsung’s Galaxy S26 lineup is already making waves months before its expected launch, with new leaks confirming significant changes to its flagship strategy. According to trusted sources close to Samsung’s supply chain, the Galaxy S26 Plus—a staple since the S20 series—will be discontinued, leaving only two models: the base Galaxy S26 and the high-end Galaxy S26 Ultra.
The Leaked Specs:
- Galaxy S26: A 6.1-inch flat Dynamic AMOLED display (down from the S25’s 6.2 inches), positioning it as a compact flagship.
- Galaxy S26 Ultra: A massive 6.8-inch curved display, slightly larger than its predecessor, with upgraded LTPO 4.0 tech for smoother adaptive refresh rates.
The move to eliminate the Plus model follows declining sales in the mid-tier flagship segment. Industry analysts suggest Samsung aims to streamline production and avoid cannibalizing sales of its foldable devices, like the popular Z Fold and Z Flip series.
Why Kill the Plus?
Insiders note that the 6.6–6.7-inch "Plus" devices struggled to differentiate themselves. The base S25 Plus accounted for just 18% of S25 series sales (Q1 2025 data), while the Ultra dominated with 63%. With the S26 Ultra rumored to pack a 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip and a 200MP primary camera, Samsung appears to be betting big on the "premium or compact" dichotomy.
"Consumers either want the absolute best specs in a phablet or a pocket-friendly powerhouse. The middle child no longer fits," said TechTrends analyst Lena Park.
Where Should Plus Fans Go?
For users who loved the S25 Plus’s balance of size and performance, alternatives exist. Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6 (6.7-inch when unfolded) could fill the gap, or you might consider last year’s S25 Plus while stocks last:
🔹 Galaxy S25 (6.2") – Still a solid compact flagship
🔹 Galaxy S25 Ultra (6.8") – The powerhouse choice
🔹 iPhone 15 Pro (6.1") – For iOS switchers
The Bigger Picture
This pivot mirrors Apple’s abandonment of the mini iPhone lineup—proof that screen-size experimentation remains risky. With the S26 series expected in January 2026, all eyes are now on whether Samsung will boost the base S26’s battery or camera specs to compensate for the Plus’s absence.
