Test Drive Unlimited Dev Deflects Steam Stats, Points to Thriving PS5 Player Base

The sun might be shining over the Hawaiian-inspired roads of Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, but its Steam player count has been cruising in the slow lane. Despite this, developer KT Racing is hitting back against concerns, insisting the game has found its true home – and a much larger audience – on PlayStation 5.

Recent data from tracking site SteamDB paints a stark picture for the PC version. Since its launch earlier this year, concurrent player peaks on Steam have often struggled to break into the quadruple digits, with daily averages frequently dipping into the low triple digits at best. This trend has fueled discussions among PC players about the game's longevity and support on the platform.

KT Racing, however, urges perspective. In a recent interview, a studio spokesperson directly addressed the Steam figures: "We understand the focus on Steam concurrents, it's a visible metric. But the reality is, PlayStation 5 is by far our biggest and most active community for Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. The engagement, the player numbers, the community activity – it all points to PS5 being the primary platform where players are experiencing and enjoying the game as intended."

The developer's statement suggests a significant disparity in platform adoption. While exact PS5 player numbers aren't publicly available like Steam's, KT Racing emphasizes that the focus on PC stats alone is misleading. They claim the core, thriving community resides on Sony's console.

This assertion is backed up by player activity observed on the game's official channels and communities. The dedicated Solar Crown subreddit, for instance, shows a heavy skew towards PS5 discussions, screenshots, and club activities. While the game is also available on Xbox Series X/S, the PS5 player base consistently appears more prominent in fan-created spaces and developer acknowledgments.

That's not to say the PS5 experience has been flawless. Players have reported performance hiccups and bugs, particularly at launch. However, KT Racing has been actively issuing patches across all platforms. Their argument hinges not on perfection, but on sheer scale of engagement.

"Looking purely at Steam gives an incomplete picture of the game's health," the spokesperson continued. "Our development focus and live service planning are heavily influenced by where our players are. Right now, and since launch, that dominant community is on PlayStation 5. We see incredible daily engagement there that simply isn't reflected in the Steam charts."

The studio encourages players to check their official news feed for ongoing updates, fixes, and future content plans, reiterating their commitment to supporting all platforms. However, their frank admission about the PS5's dominance serves as a clear reminder that in today's multi-platform landscape, success isn't always measured equally across storefronts. For Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, the engine of its community is undeniably running strongest on PlayStation.
