Kia Unleashes the EV4 GT: New Performance Wrap Hints at an Electric Hot Hatch Beast

The electric performance arena is about to get a new, seriously stylish contender. Kia has just pulled the covers off—or more accurately, partially revealed—the upcoming EV4 GT, giving us our first official look at what promises to be the most thrilling version of its popular EV4 hatchback.

While the standard, single-motor EV4 launched earlier this year to strong reviews, the appetite for a high-performance variant has been growing. Kia has already proven its GT mettle with the blistering EV6 GT and the formidable EV9 GT, and now, it's the compact EV4's turn to join the family. The reveal came not through a traditional debut, but via the launch of a new, dedicated "GT Wrap" that will cloak the brand's performance prototypes during testing.

More Than Just Camouflage: The Story Behind the GT Wrap

This isn't your average vinyl disguise. The new GT Wrap is a striking black, gray, and neon green geometric foil designed specifically to shroud Kia's electric GT models during their final development phases. In an official press release detailing the new design, the company states that the dynamic pattern is meant to capture "motion and light," directly hinting at the speed and emotional character of its high-performance vehicles.

It’s a bold statement piece that does more than just hide the car's final lines; it teases its personality. The wrap, with its sharp, slashing lines in eye-searing green, suggests a car that’s not just efficient, but aggressively fun. The teaser images also give us a clear look at a set of bespoke alloy wheels, likely designed to handle the GT's increased power and enhance its sporting stance.

What We Know (And What We Expect) from the EV4 GT

As for the hard specs, Kia is keeping the crucial performance details under that very stylish wrap for now. To recap, the standard front-wheel-drive EV4 offers a respectable 201 bhp from its single motor, with a choice of a 58.3 kWh or a long-range 81.4 kWh battery.

So, what can we expect from the GT? If it follows the blueprint of its stablemates, we're looking at a significant power upgrade, almost certainly through the addition of a second motor on the rear axle, creating an all-wheel-drive powertrain capable of sub-5-second 0-60 mph sprints.

Another tantalizing possibility is the inclusion of Kia’s innovative Virtual Gear Shift (VGS) system. As seen on the EV6 GT and EV9 GT, this technology mimics the experience of driving a traditional manual or automatic ICE car by providing simulated shift patterns, haptic feedback through the shift lever, and accompanying engine sounds. It’s a feature that has been praised for adding an engaging, driver-focused layer to the EV experience, and it would be a perfect fit for the hot-hatch-inspired EV4 GT.

This strategic tease aligns with Kia's broader electrification strategy, as noted by industry observers at Arena EV, demonstrating a clear commitment to injecting performance into every segment of its electric lineup.

The Wait (and the Price) for Performance

Patience will be key for eager fans. The Kia EV4 GT is currently scheduled for a full release sometime in 2026, with an exact date yet to be confirmed. When it does arrive, expect a premium over the current top-tier models. In the UK, the range-topping EV4 GT-Line S with a heat pump commands £44,795. Given the performance leap and added technology, it's safe to assume the EV4 GT will start from at least £50,000, positioning it as a direct competitor to other premium electric hot hatches.

One thing is clear: with the EV4 GT, Kia isn't just building another electric car; it's crafting an experience. And if the promise of its new camouflage is anything to go by, it’s going to be an electrifyingly fast one.
