Casio Confirms European Launch of the Rugged and Feature-Packed AE-1700H Watch

The wait is over for European fans of affordable, durable timepieces, as Casio officially lists the new AE-1700H series on its regional websites, bringing a splash of retro-digital fun and practical tool-based features to the market.

After rumours began circulating earlier in the year, Casio has made it official: the new AE-1700H series of digital watches is coming to Europe. The model, which has already seen a release on the brand's US online store, has now appeared on several key European Casio sites, signalling an imminent launch for customers in the region.

For decades, Casio's digital watches have been synonymous with reliability, functionality, and unbeatable value. The AE-1700H series looks set to continue that legacy, offering a robust set of features wrapped in a classic, utilitarian design that appeals to both watch enthusiasts and those seeking a dependable everyday timepiece.

Model Availability and Pricing

European shoppers can now browse the new models on Casio's official websites for countries like the Netherlands, Spain, and Germany. Three distinct variants have been listed for the initial launch:

  • AE-1700H-1AV: Featuring a full black case and strap with a black bezel and a classic positive LCD display.
  • AE-1700H-1A2V: This model sports a bold, sporty look with a black case and strap paired with a red and blue bezel and a positive display.
  • AE-1700H-1BV: For those who prefer a more modern, stealthy aesthetic, this version offers a black case and strap with a black bezel and a negative (inverted) display.

Pricing has been set at a very accessible €49.90, positioning it as a compelling entry in the budget-friendly digital watch segment. While Casio has not yet announced a specific release date, interested customers are encouraged to visit the product pages and “sign up now” to receive an email notification the moment the watches are in stock.

You can check out the classic black model, the AE-1700H-1AV, directly on the official Casio Netherlands website here.

Built to Last: Design and Durability

Staying true to the brand's DNA, the Casio AE-1700H is built for resilience. The watch features a tough resin casing and matching strap, with dimensions of 54.9 x 47.3 x 14.3 mm, giving it a substantial yet comfortable presence on the wrist.

A key design and functional upgrade is the addition of a rotating aluminium bezel. This isn't just for show; it can be used as a practical timer for various activities. Furthermore, the watch boasts an impressive 10 ATM water resistance, meaning it's suitable for swimming, snorkelling, and other water-based sports, but not for high-board diving or sub-aqua diving.

Powering the watch is a standard CR2032 battery, which Casio estimates will provide approximately ten years of operation on a single cell, ensuring years of hassle-free use.

More Than Just Time: Standout Features

Beyond telling the time, the AE-1700H is packed with useful functions tailored for modern, on-the-go lifestyles. It supports dual time zones—perfect for travellers or those with family abroad—with a convenient option to toggle daylight saving time on or off. Standard tools like a countdown timer, stopwatch, and multi-function alarm are also included.

However, one feature that truly sets this model apart is the dedicated Fishing Mode. This niche function utilises lunar data, tracking the moon's phase and position, to predict periods of high fish activity. For anglers, this built-in tool offers a unique advantage, helping to plan fishing trips for a potentially better catch.

Rounding out the specs is a practical LED backlight, ensuring the display remains easily readable in low-light conditions, from a late-night campfire to an early morning commute.

The European launch is now confirmed, though the question of availability in the UK remains open. For now, European watch enthusiasts have a new, highly capable, and affordable digital Casio to get excited about.
