Exclusive Leak: DJI's RS 5 Gimbal Rumored to Feature Major Battery Boost and Faster Charging

The RS 5 has only been pictured in a single colour option so far, mirroring the RS 4 Pro shown here.

Renowned industry leaker Igor Bogdanov has once again pierced the veil of secrecy surrounding DJI’s development lab, providing fresh and compelling details about the drone giant’s next professional camera stabilizer. The product, expected to be called the Ronin RS 5 (or simply RS 5), is shaping up to be a significant iterative upgrade focused on solving core pain points for videographers.

This new intel builds on the gimbal's first public appearance nearly three months ago, when it was quietly listed on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website in the United States. That filing was the first solid evidence of the RS 5's existence, arriving amidst a flurry of DJI releases and ahead of anticipated products like the Avata 2 and Osmo Pocket 4.

Power and Performance: The Heart of the Upgrade

The FCC documents previously revealed the most tantalizing hardware spec: a new battery. The filing indicated the RS 5 would house a battery nearly 60% larger than the one in the current RS 4 model. Impressively, this capacity would also surpass the higher-end RS 4 Pro by over 10%.

According to Bogdanov's latest information, this substantial capacity increase translates to a concrete 15% improvement in battery life. For professionals on long shoot days, this extra cushion could mean the difference between capturing the golden hour clip or missing it.

Perhaps even more critical than raw capacity is the rumored charging upgrade. DJI is said to have paired this larger battery with dramatically improved charging capabilities. Bogdanov claims the RS 5 could be fully recharged in approximately one hour, a game-changer for workflow efficiency compared to the slower charge times of previous models.

Refined Handling and Smarter Features

Beyond power, the RS 5 is rumored to introduce a Z-axis balancing indicator. This new tool, likely an integrated LED or screen-based guide, would assist users in achieving perfect balance along the vertical axis—a crucial step for optimal gimbal performance and battery conservation. Despite these internal changes, the gimbal is expected to retain a robust 3 kg (6.6 lbs) payload capacity, maintaining its ability to handle popular mirrorless and cinema camera setups.

On the software front, DJI is allegedly pushing its intelligent features further. Bogdanov hints at improved intelligent composition and subject tracking algorithms, though specific details remain under wraps. These enhancements would build upon the already capable ActiveTrack and auto-framing features found in the Ronin ecosystem.

When Can We Expect the DJI RS 5?

A concrete launch date remains the biggest unknown. DJI's release pattern for the Ronin S/RS line has varied, but the timing of the FCC filing offers a clue. Furthermore, the more compact RS 4 Mini is approaching its first anniversary (and remains a compelling buy at its current price on Amazon).

Given the typical 4-6 month gap between FCC certification and retail launch, and considering DJI's historical spring release windows for pro gear, a debut between late February and early April 2026 appears highly plausible. This timeline would allow DJI to capitalize on the pre-summer production boom for filmmakers.
