A single, haunting social media post from The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley has sent the gaming community into a speculative tailspin. What some initially hoped was a tease for a new God of War title now appears to be a complex web of hints pointing toward a major Blizzard announcement—potentially involving a Diablo 4 expansion and a surprise Nintendo Switch 2 port.
The Sculpture That Started It All
It began when Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a dark, intricate sculpture, captioning it simply with an eyes emoji. The atmospheric artwork immediately sparked theories across gaming forums and social media.

Many fans, clinging to the hope of a Norse saga follow-up, speculated it was a tease for the next God of War game. The aesthetic, however, also perfectly aligned with the gothic, hellish tones of the Diablo universe.

Insider Weighs In, Shifts the Narrative
Windows Central editor and reliable industry insider Jez Corden was quick to douse the God of War theories. In a post, he definitively shut down the connection to Kratos’s world.

When a reader directly asked if the tease was for a Diablo 4 expansion, Corden’s reply was tantalizingly vague: “yes but also, more.” This cryptic comment is the key that unlocked the next wave of speculation.

The Evidence for a Diablo 4 Expansion
The foundation for a Diablo 4 announcement at The Game Awards on December 12 is already solid. Earlier this year, dataminers discovered an image referencing that exact date within the game’s files. When pressed on the finding, a Diablo game designer and associate game director pointedly recommended that fans “watch The Game Awards.”
This aligns perfectly with Blizzard’s official roadmap, which slots a major expansion for 2026, following this year’s Vessel of Hatred. An announcement at gaming’s biggest year-end show is a logical move.

The “More”: Is a Nintendo Switch 2 Port Incoming?
This brings us to the “more” in Corden’s tease. If not just an expansion, what else could Blizzard be planning? The most compelling theory points to a new platform release.
Diablo 4 is already available on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC (including via Xbox Game Pass). The one major platform family it’s missing is Nintendo. Rumors of a Switch 2 version have circulated since early 2025, with insiders like eXtas1s claiming it was part of a wave of Xbox-supported titles coming to the new hardware.
Former Blizzard GM Rod Fergusson has also expressed interest in bringing the title to Nintendo audiences. The primary hurdle has been the game’s always-online, live-service model on a portable device. If Blizzard has engineered a technical solution, The Game Awards would be the perfect stage to reveal it.
This would also fit with Microsoft’s broader strategy of bringing its titles—including those from the newly integrated Activision Blizzard—to the Switch 2. A high-profile Diablo 4 port would be a massive endorsement for the console’s power.
A Perfect Storm for The Game Awards
All clues point to a significant Diablo-themed segment during Geoff Keighley’s December show. Corden himself had advised players to reinstall Diablo 4 back in November, a comment that now seems prophetic.

The likely reveal sequence? An official trailer for the next major expansion, Diablo 4: [Expansion Name], followed by the iconic “Available Now…” text that switches to “Coming 2026… and available on Nintendo Switch 2 in [Date].”
For Nintendo fans, this would be a blockbuster announcement, signaling serious third-party support for the Switch 2. For Blizzard, it would open the action RPG to an entirely new, massive player base just as its new content cycle begins.
As always, the rumors remain unconfirmed until the official word comes from the stage. But one thing is certain: all eyes will be on The Game Awards this December, where the mystery of Geoff Keighley’s sculpture will finally be solved.
