If you’ve been holding off on picking up one of 2025’s most celebrated indie adventures, now might be your moment—mostly. Hollow Knight: Silksong, the long-awaited sequel to the beloved Hollow Knight, has received its first significant price cut since launch, with one glaring exception that’s frustrating a notable part of the fanbase.

Across PC and console storefronts, the Metroidvania masterpiece is currently available for $15.99, a solid 20% off its standard $19.99 price. The sale is live on Humble Bundle, Steam, and GOG for PC gamers, and mirror discounts are found on the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop. There is a catch, however: the PC sales are scheduled to end on January 5th, and console platforms are expected to follow suit, removing the discount at that time. This makes the promotion a perfectly timed nudge for players looking to dive into Hallownest's haunting heights before the announced free content drop, Sea of Sorrow, arrives next year.

Yet, in a move that has baffled and disappointed fans, Xbox console owners are completely excluded from this sale. While every other platform enjoys the reduced price, the game remains at a full $19.99 on the Microsoft and Xbox Store.

You can check out the full-price listing for yourself on the official Xbox store here: Hollow Knight: Silksong on Xbox.

The reason for this platform-specific snub is unclear. Speculation among the community suggests it could be a strategic move by developers Team Cherry to balance the game’s day-one inclusion in PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate, or it might stem from a Microsoft store policy decision. Whatever the cause, the result is the same: Xbox fans are paying a premium while others celebrate the discount.

Sale controversy aside, Silksong remains a towering achievement. The game has been praised for its breathtaking art, intricate world design, and challenging, satisfying combat. It’s also a technical gem that scales impressively across hardware. On last-gen consoles like the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, the game runs at a solid 1080p and 60 FPS. However, on current-gen systems—including the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 (and Pro), and Xbox Series S/X—players can experience the fluid, high-precision action at silky-smooth 120 FPS and 4K resolution. For those who haven’t experienced a 2D action game at a high refresh rate, Silksong is a visual and gameplay revelation. PC players, as ever, can push frames as high as their rigs allow.

Given that the game launched at an already reasonable $20 earlier this year to near-universal acclaim (its steep challenge being the most common "complaint"), this early discount is a welcome surprise. While some bargain hunters may still be waiting for a sub-$15 price point, veterans of the original Hollow Knight and new players alike can attest: Silksong delivers an experience worth every penny of its asking price—sale or no sale. For everyone except, it seems, those on Xbox.
