SHENZHEN, China – Huawei has officially pulled back the curtain on its upcoming smartphone lineup, announcing that the much-anticipated Nova 15 series will launch in China on December 22. The tech giant has released the first official images, revealing three distinct models—the Nova 15, Nova 15 Pro, and the flagship Nova 15 Ultra—each available in a palette of four stylish colors.
The announcement has sparked considerable interest, particularly in the design direction of the top-tier model, which makes a striking visual statement.
Huawei Nova 15 Ultra: A Design Powerhouse
The headliner of the series, the Huawei Nova 15 Ultra, immediately catches the eye with its sophisticated build and bold camera architecture. It features a slim metal frame, with a matte finish adorning the white and black versions, while the blue and green models sport a glossy, reflective sheen.
These blue and green variants go a step further, featuring a heavily textured back panel. This design choice isn't just aesthetic; it promises a significantly improved grip, addressing a common concern with sleek, glossy smartphones.
However, the most talking point is undoubtedly the exceptionally large, circular camera module on the rear. Its pronounced design is reminiscent of high-end flagships, drawing clear inspiration from the likes of the Apple iPhone 17 Pro. Huawei's approach, however, differs in execution. Instead of individual camera lenses protruding independently, the Nova 15 Ultra houses its triple-camera system within a single, slightly raised circular platform.
A second, outer ring on the module adds intrigue. It not only contains the LED flash but also integrates two additional sensors. The exact function of these sensors remains a mystery, fueling speculation about advanced depth-sensing or macro capabilities ahead of the full reveal.
On the front, the Ultra sports a flat display marked by an unusual "pill-shaped" punch-hole cutout. This houses two selfie cameras, strongly suggesting the inclusion of advanced 3D facial recognition technology for secure unlocking. Storage options are generous, with the Ultra offering 256 GB, 512 GB, or a massive 1 TB of internal space.
Nova 15 Pro & Nova 15: Streamlined Options
Stepping down, the Huawei Nova 15 Pro shares many of the Ultra's highlights but with slight refinements. It retains the triple rear camera setup and the dual selfie cameras within the pill-shaped punch-hole. The key visual difference is in the camera module, where it omits one of the two mystery sensors found on the Ultra. It will be available in white, black, purple, or green, with a choice of 256 GB or 512 GB storage.
For those seeking a more accessible entry point, the standard Huawei Nova 15 presents a streamlined package. It forgoes the dual selfie camera system and the oversized camera module. Images indicate it settles for a dual rear camera setup, presumably focusing on core photographic functions. It shares the same four color options as the Pro model.
While the design and storage configurations are now clear, Huawei is still keeping the core specifications—such as processor, battery capacity, and detailed camera resolutions—under wraps. These details are expected to be the centerpiece of the December 22 launch event.
