In a welcome surprise for smart home enthusiasts, IKEA has quietly begun stocking its latest generation of Matter and Thread-enabled devices in select European stores, significantly ahead of their anticipated January 2026 launch.
The new products, which promise greater interoperability and reliability within the smart home, were officially announced in early November 2025. While a full-scale global rollout was expected after the new year, eagle-eyed shoppers and smart home bloggers have now confirmed early availability in several key markets.
Early Sightings Across Europe
The first reports emerged from the Netherlands, courtesy of a detailed overview from Smart Home Centre. According to their findings, the affordable IKEA Kajplats LED bulb E27 (470 lumens) is already on shelves for €7.99. Alongside it, the versatile Bilresa dual button remote control was spotted, priced at €5.99.
Shoppers in Spain have also had luck. A Reddit user in the r/homeassistant community posted evidence of the Myggspray wireless motion sensor available for €9.99 and the Timmerflotte temperature and humidity sensor for €7.99. A more powerful Kajplats LED bulb E27 (1,521 lumens) with smart white spectrum was also found for €12.99.
German and Czech Availability Confirmed
The trend continues in Germany, where another keen Redditor shared their finds in the r/smarthome subreddit. They reported seeing the Timmerflotte sensor (€9.99) and the high-lumen Kajplats bulb (€12.99). Interestingly, they also noted slightly different pricing for the Bilresa remotes, with the dual-button version at €4.99 and a newly spotted Bilresa scroll wheel remote listed for €7.99.
Perhaps most conclusively, the entire new lineup appears to be ready for purchase online in Czechia. IKEA's Czech online store has listed the products, including the Bilresa scroll wheel remote, allowing customers to secure them immediately. This move often precedes a wider online launch in other regions.
What This Early Launch Means
This soft launch allows IKEA to gauge stock and logistics in real-world conditions before the official January release. For consumers, it’s a chance to get their hands on highly-anticipated, budget-friendly devices that support Matter, the new universal smart home standard designed to end compatibility wars.
As noted in an early hands-on report from Smart Home Centre, these products represent a significant step forward for IKEA’s DIRIGERA ecosystem, bringing Thread border router functionality to more devices and enhancing overall network stability.
The German tech blog Stadt Bremerhaven also confirmed the widespread early stock in physical stores, suggesting this is a coordinated, though under-the-radar, retail strategy.
The Bottom Line
While IKEA has not made an official announcement regarding this early store availability, evidence from multiple countries is undeniable. If you’ve been waiting to expand your smart home with Matter-over-Thread devices from IKEA, it’s worth checking your local store’s lighting or smart home section.
The full online launch across Europe and other continents is still expected in January 2026, but for now, a lucky early adoption window is open for those in the right location.
