LG Display Teases Larger, Sharper Tandem WOLED Panels Ahead of CES 2026

LG Display plans to release a 39-inch 5K ultrawide variant of its Tandem WOLED panel.

If you’ve been waiting for LG’s cutting-edge Tandem WOLED technology to reach larger, higher-resolution displays, your patience may soon be rewarded. LG Display has just dropped new promotional videos, giving us our best look yet at the future of its premium OLED panels, with exciting new sizes and specs poised to debut at CES 2026.

For those catching up, Tandem WOLED—previously known as Primary RGB Tandem OLED—represents a significant leap in display engineering. By stacking two OLED layers, the technology achieves higher peak brightness, improved color volume, and enhanced longevity compared to single-stack designs. So far, we’ve seen it primarily in high-performance 27-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) gaming monitors, like the Gigabyte MO27Q28G (currently available at Newegg) and various Asus ROG models, with refresh rates soaring up to 540 Hz (and even 720 Hz in a boosted mode). But LG’s latest teaser suggests the tech is about to break out of the 27-inch mold in a big way.

The Headliner: A 39-Inch 5K Ultrawide Dream

The most tantalizing reveal from the video is a 39-inch 5K ultrawide panel. This almost certainly refers to the cinematic 5K2K resolution (5120 x 2160 pixels). For creators and immersive gamers, this is a potential game-changer.

At 39 inches diagonally, this resolution delivers a pixel density of roughly 142 PPI (pixels per inch). To put that in perspective, it offers a noticeably sharper and more detailed image than the existing 39-inch WOLED panels that use a lower 3440 x 1440 resolution. This could become the new gold standard for professionals seeking expansive screen real estate without sacrificing sharpness, and for gamers who want ultrawide immersion with exceptional clarity.

A Sharper 27-Inch Contender

Alongside the giant ultrawide, LG is also hinting at a new 27-inch Tandem WOLED panel. The promotional material doesn’t explicitly state "4K," but it heavily emphasizes a "high PPI for exceptional clarity." This strongly suggests a jump to a 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution, a welcome upgrade for users who want the utmost detail in a compact, high-refresh-rate package.

The teaser also reaffirms the existing 27-inch 540 Hz panel with its 720 Hz dual-mode option, which will power monitors like the upcoming LG Ultragear 27GX790B. However, the absence of any mention of a 32-inch Tandem WOLED model in this teaser will likely disappoint those hoping for a middle-ground size.

What We Still Don’t Know

While the shapes and sizes are coming into focus, LG Display has kept several key details under wraps. The company has not yet:

  • Confirmed which monitor brands (besides its own LG Electronics) will be first to adopt these new panels.
  • Revealed target refresh rates for the 39-inch and potential 27-inch 4K panels.
  • Shared official brightness specifications or longevity estimates.
  • Provided any indication of pricing, which will be crucial for market adoption.

The Road to CES 2026

All signs point to a formal unveiling at CES 2026 in Las Vegas this January. The promotional videos, available on LG Display’s official YouTube channel, serve as a clear statement of intent, outlining both the new panel lineup and the core benefits of the Tandem WOLED technology.

For now, the existing 27-inch Tandem WOLED monitors, like the Gigabyte MO27Q28G, offer a compelling taste of the performance this tech enables. But if LG’s teasers are any indication, the real evolution—bringing that coveted OLED contrast and motion clarity to larger, sharper canvases—is just around the corner. CES 2026 can’t come soon enough for display enthusiasts.
