| Diablo 4's new season isn't off to a very hot start |
In a move that has the Diablo community buzzing, Blizzard has quietly revealed not one, but two new classes coming with the upcoming Lord of Hatred expansion for Diablo 4. The first, announced to the joy of longtime fans, is the iconic Paladin—a holy warrior staple from the series' past. The second class remains shrouded in mystery, with Blizzard stating it will only be unveiled when the DLC officially goes live on April 28.
There’s a catch, however, and it’s a significant one. While the new content is technically playable right now alongside the launch of the latest season, accessing it requires a pre-order of the expansion. And for a vast number of players, actually giving Blizzard their money has become an exercise in frustration.
A Widespread Purchasing Nightmare
Since the pre-orders went live, a chorus of complaints has erupted across social media and gaming forums. Players on Reddit, Battle.net, X (formerly Twitter), and other platforms are reporting an identical, baffling issue: they are completely unable to purchase the Lord of Hatred expansion.
The primary error message, displayed prominently on the Battle.net client, reads: “Sorry, you’re not eligible to purchase Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred - Deluxe Edition.” To add to the confusion, numerous users reported the client randomly switching between currencies during the failed transaction process.
The problem appears widespread and persistent. As evidenced by threads on the official Diablo 4 forums and community discussions on Reddit, the issue has affected a large segment of the player base for hours. Blizzard's own customer support account on X has acknowledged the problem but solutions remain elusive for most.
A Fractured Launch: Streamers In, Everyone Else Out
The situation has created a bizarre two-tier launch. A small subset of players, particularly some content creators and streamers, have reportedly been able to purchase and access the expansion without issue. For the overwhelming majority, however, the storefront remains a brick wall.
Blizzard has stated it is "aware of issues affecting the Lord of Hatred pre-purchase" and that teams are working on a fix. In a post on X, the Diablo account advised players to "please stay tuned for updates." The lack of a clear timeline suggests it may be some time before the digital store is fully functional.
In the meantime, the community has scrambled for workarounds. One potential method circulating online involves purchasing the expansion as a "gift" from a separate Battle.net account and then redeeming it on your main account. However, player reports indicate the success rate for this fix is spotty at best, and it's hardly an ideal solution for a straightforward purchase.
The Bottom Line: Great News Marred by Technical Failure
The return of the Paladin is a major win for Diablo lore enthusiasts and a smart nod to the series' history. Yet, the excitement surrounding this and the secret second class has been severely dampened by a launch-day store malfunction that prevents fans from joining the new season's content.
For now, players eager to don the Paladin's plate armor are left in limbo, waiting for Blizzard to resolve a purchasing system that, for reasons unknown, has deemed them "not eligible." It's a stark reminder that in the live-service era, the biggest battle at launch isn't always against demons—it's sometimes against the checkout page.
