In a move that signals just how quickly legacy automakers can pivot, Volvo has officially launched its first gigacast electric vehicle—the 2026 EX60 SUV. The journey from blueprint to showroom was remarkably swift: it took the Swedish brand less than two years from signing with the same Italian gigacasting press manufacturer used by Tesla, to delivering this groundbreaking model.

Now available for order in the United States with first deliveries slated for May 2026, the EX60 isn’t just another electric SUV. It’s a direct challenger to the established leaders, boasting class-leading range, innovative safety tech, and a price tag that undercuts key competitors.

Striking a Blow on Price and Range

The headline figure is undeniable: up to 400 miles of EPA-estimated range. This places the all-wheel-drive EX60 P12 among the longest-range electric vehicles available in the U.S., an impressive feat for a mid-size premium SUV.

Perhaps more startling is the price at which that range arrives. Volvo has set the starting Volvo EX60 price between $60,000 and $70,000. The entry-level rear-wheel-drive P6 model begins around $60,000, while the 400-mile AWD P12 tops the lineup at approximately $70,000. This positions it about $30,000 lower than a comparable all-wheel-drive Tesla Model X, all while offering an estimated 50 more miles of range, a longer battery warranty, and what early reviews suggest is a more premium interior.

For official specifications and detailed pricing, Volvo has released full details in their press release.

Warranty and Charging: Building Confidence

Volvo is backing its battery technology with strong guarantees. The long-range P12 model comes with a 10-year battery warranty, guaranteeing that at the warranty's end, the battery will retain sufficient capacity for at least 320 miles of range. This stands in contrast to the 8-year term for a comparable Tesla Model X, which guarantees 280 miles at the period's end.

Charging is another area of focus. The EX60 is built on an 800V architecture and features a native NACS port, enabling peak charging speeds of up to 400 kW at compatible Tesla V4 Superchargers. While such ultra-fast chargers are still expanding, when available, Volvo estimates a 10-minute stop could add about 173 miles of range. Furthermore, the EX60 includes 22 kW bi-directional charging (vehicle-to-load), a feature Tesla currently reserves for its Cybertruck and at lower power.

For home charging, Volvo offers its own version of a Wall Connector, which is available for purchase on Amazon, though it's unclear if the three years of free charging promotion offered in Europe will extend to U.S. customers.

Safety First, As Always

True to its brand DNA, Volvo has engineered the EX60 to be a safety leader. Its new gigacast body structure provides a rigid foundation, while a suite of sensors, dubbed HuginCore, monitors the vehicle's surroundings in real time. The company also highlights the world's first "multi-adaptive safety belt" as part of its comprehensive protection system.

Passenger comfort receives equal attention. The cabin features an electrochromic panoramic glass roof, heated and ventilated massaging front seats, and even heated, folding booster cushions in the rear for younger passengers. An optional 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system includes headrest speakers, and the Google-based infotainment system offers deep integration with Gemini AI and Apple Music.

The Adventurous CrossCountry Edition

Adding to its appeal, the EX60 will be offered in Volvo's storied CrossCountry edition. Finished in an exclusive Forest Green, this variant gains increased ground clearance, an adaptive air suspension with lift capability, stainless steel skid plates, and unique badging and wheel arches. Already on sale in Europe, an EPA range estimate is pending, but a U.S. release seems likely, with pricing to be announced.

The Bottom Line

The Volvo EX60 represents a significant leap. By leveraging gigacasting efficiency, Volvo has delivered a vehicle that competes fiercely on the metrics EV shoppers care about most: range, price, charging speed, and warranty assurance. With its signature safety, Scandinavian luxury, and a compelling new CrossCountry variant, the EX60 is poised to be a formidable player in the crowded electric SUV market.
