| The Fenix 8 Pro is now running different stable software compared to the rest of the Fenix 8 family. |
If you are the proud owner of a Garmin Fenix 8 Pro, you might want to check your smartphone. The tech giant has been busy in the lab again, rolling out another beta update just days after its last major drop. This time, however, the focus isn't on adding new features, but on fixing a frustrating glitch that has been bothering users of the premium adventure watch.
Last week, Garmin began pushing Beta Version 21.28 to the Fenix 8 Pro series. This release arrives hot on the heels of System Software 21.25, a substantial update that was distributed only about four days prior and packed with nearly two dozen improvements and tweaks. The rapid succession of updates highlights Garmin’s commitment to refining the user experience on its flagship wearable.
A Quick Fix for a Persistent Problem
While the previous update (21.25) was all about enhancements, version 21.28 is a surgical strike aimed at resolving a specific connectivity annoyance. According to the official release notes, the new System Software 21.28 does not contain any of the feature changes detailed in the Tuesday announcement for the previous build.
Instead, it targets a bug that caused the "LTE searching/standby" banner to appear on the watch face at frequent and unnecessary intervals. For users who rely on the standalone connectivity of the Fenix 8 Pro, having a persistent banner pop up repeatedly can be distracting and impact the overall experience. This fix ensures that the banner only appears when relevant, cleaning up the interface during daily wear.
Who Gets the Update?
As it stands, LTE connectivity remains a premium feature exclusive to the Fenix 8 Pro lineup. Therefore, by extension, this beta update should also be available for the marine-focused Quatix 8 Pro, which shares the same internal architecture.
However, if you are using a different model in the Fenix family, you won't see version 21.28 in your updates just yet. Garmin will be keeping the following devices on System Software 21.25 for the time being:
- Enduro 3
- Fenix E
- Non-Pro versions of the Fenix 8 series
Price Drop on the High-End Model
In related news that might interest potential buyers, Garmin has permanently cut the price of the premium Fenix 8 Pro model featuring the stunning microLED display. While the software fixes are rolling out to existing users, the hardware is becoming slightly more accessible to newcomers. You can currently check the updated pricing for the Garmin Fenix 8 Pro on Amazon.
What’s Next?
At this stage, Garmin has not provided a timeline regarding when the next round of beta development will begin for the Fenix 8 Pro and its peers. For now, the focus is on stabilizing the current generation with these targeted hotfixes.
If you are experiencing the LTE banner issue, it is highly recommended to install the update via the Garmin Connect app. For a detailed breakdown of the changelog and to see user feedback on the new build, you can visit the official Garmin Forums.
