The dream of playing the entire PlayStation 3 library on PC is closer to reality than ever before. The team behind RPCS3, the pioneering PlayStation 3 emulator, has announced a significant leap forward in compatibility. According to the latest data, the emulator can now get a staggering 98.18% of all PS3 titles to at least boot and navigate past the main menus.
For years, the RPCS3 team has been working tirelessly to reverse-engineer the complex Cell processor architecture of the PS3, a task often described as one of the most difficult in the emulation scene. While the project has always been impressive, the latest update marks a turning point, pushing the tool from "works for most games" to "works for nearly everything."
Understanding the RPCS3 Compatibility Scale
To understand the magnitude of this achievement, it helps to look at how RPCS3 classifies game statuses. The team maintains a detailed compatibility list that breaks down exactly how well each title performs:
- Playable: Games that run flawlessly, with no major glitches or performance issues.
- Ingame: Games that boot, get past menus, and show gameplay, but may suffer from bugs, graphical errors, or performance slowdowns that prevent completion.
- Intro: Games that boot to a title screen or intro video but cannot proceed into actual gameplay.
As of the latest stability update, the numbers are more impressive than ever. Currently, 73.06% of the PS3 library is marked as "Playable." Meanwhile, another 25.12% of titles have reached the "Ingame" status.
This means that out of the thousands of games released for the PlayStation 3, only a tiny fraction are completely unplayable.
The Final Frontier: PlayStation Move Titles
So, what is left to fix? According to the developers, the remaining hurdles are very specific. There are currently only 62 PlayStation 3 games stuck in the "Intro" category. These are titles that launch but refuse to go any further.
Interestingly, a massive portion of these stubborn titles—46 out of the 62—are games that require PlayStation Move motion controls. The emulator handles standard button inputs perfectly, but translating the unique data from motion controllers and the PlayStation Eye camera remains a complex barrier for full compatibility. (For those looking for a more traditional experience, a high-quality controller like the PlayStation-compatible Nacon Revolution 5 Pro controller curr. $140.98 on Amazon is a popular choice for PC gaming).
In a recent update on social media, the developers shared their excitement about the progress, noting that once these Move-specific issues are resolved, the project will be incredibly close to what the community considers "Project Complete."
We are happy to report that RPCS3 can now get over 98% of the PS3 library at least past the menus! Only 62 games remain in the 'Intro' category, 46 of which are PlayStation Move titles. We are closer than ever to getting every single game to at least boot into gameplay.

What This Means for Gamers
For preservationists and PC gamers, this news is massive. The PlayStation 3 library is home to cult classics and exclusives like Metal Gear Solid 4, Demon's Souls, and the Ratchet & Clank series—titles that have never left the platform. With 98.18% of games now accessible past the menus, the emulator has effectively removed the barrier to entry for the vast majority of the console's back catalog.
While the "Ingame" titles still need some polish to become fully "Playable," the foundation is solid. The team's focus now shifts to optimizing performance and tackling the unique coding challenges presented by the motion-controlled games.
For those eager to revisit the PS3 era on their PC, the latest build of the emulator is available to download on the official RPCS3 website.

After moving all the SingStar games out of the Intro compatibility status, we went from 101 to 62 games classified as Intro.
Of the remaining 62, 46 are PlayStation Move games.
