Vivo wants to bring its camera prowess to vlogging cameras.

For years, Vivo has been the dark horse of mobile photography, consistently pushing the boundaries of what a smartphone camera can do. Now, it appears the Chinese tech giant is ready to train its lens on a booming new market. According to a new industry report, Vivo has officially set its sights on developing a dedicated vlogging camera, a move that could pit it directly against established leaders like DJI.

The news, broken by the reputable Chinese publication Jiemian News, reveals that Vivo disclosed internal plans for the project. Development is said to have kicked off in late 2025, with an anticipated launch before the end of this year. This strategic expansion suggests Vivo is confident that its deep expertise in image processing, stabilization, and lens technology—honed through its flagship X-series smartphones—can translate into a compelling standalone device.

So, what do we know so far? The report positions Vivo’s upcoming device as a direct competitor to DJI’s immensely popular Osmo Pocket line of handheld gimbal cameras. This indicates a focus on portability, superior stabilization, and ease of use for content creators on the move. While specific specs, features, and pricing remain tightly under wraps, industry watchers are already speculating. Given Vivo’s long-standing and fruitful partnership with legendary optics maker Zeiss, it would be a surprise if the vlogging camera didn’t incorporate some of that co-engineered technology for superior image quality.

The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 was released in October 2023.

As detailed in the original exclusive report from Jiemian News, the road to launch won't be without challenges. Vivo’s entry into the arena will coincide with fierce competition. The company will be contending with the highly anticipated releases of the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 and its Pro variant. Furthermore, another major player, Insta360, is also rumored to be preparing its own challenger to the Osmo Pocket, with leaked images suggesting a modular design philosophy.

The big question remains: What can Vivo bring to the table that isn't already there? The dedicated vlogging camera market craves innovation—better sensors, more intuitive software, smarter AI features, and seamless connectivity. Vivo’s strength has always been in leveraging computational photography to deliver stunning results. If it can package that know-how into a compact, creator-friendly form factor, it could truly disrupt the space.

For now, creators and tech enthusiasts will have to wait for more concrete details. But one thing is clear: the battle for your pocket and your content is heating up, and Vivo is now officially a contender.
