| The Fenix 8 Pro should be in line for a new stable update at some stage, too. |
If you felt a sense of déjà vu while updating your Garmin smartwatch this week, you aren’t imagining things. Just days after rolling out Beta Version 21.34—which curiously featured the exact same changelog as the previous version—Garmin is back with yet another over-the-air (OTA) release for the Fenix 8 series and its rugged siblings.
Effective immediately, Beta Version 21.35 is now available for compatible devices. However, if you are hoping to see a laundry list of new features, you might want to temper your expectations. In a move that is starting to look like a pattern, the changelog for Beta Version 21.35 is virtually identical to the notes we saw in 21.34 and 21.32 before that.
So, why is Garmin pushing the same fixes repeatedly? The answer likely lies in the fine print regarding feature availability. According to the official announcement on the Garmin Forums, this specific build is significant because it flips the switch on three major functionalities: Aviation, Dive, and ECG features.
Typically, Garmin disables these specific features during the early stages of beta testing to ensure system stability before unleashing the full suite of sensors and software. The fact that they are re-enabling them now suggests that the core stability issues have been ironed out. This is a strong signal that the testing phase is winding down.
When Will the Stable Update Arrive?
When Garmin re-enables premium features like ECG (electrocardiogram) and dive metrics in a beta build, it usually means the company is preparing to push the code to the stable production branch. Therefore, we can likely expect to see System Software 21.35 (or a very similar version number) rolling out to the public within the next few days.
This will likely replace the current public versions, such as System Software 21.25 and 21.27 for most users. For those with the Tactix 8, the update path looks similar. The big question mark remains the Micro LED version of the Fenix 8 Pro. It is currently unclear if the stable version will overwrite System Software 21.30 for that specific model, given that the "Pro" line remains excluded from this current beta track.
Note on Compatibility: It is also worth reiterating that this update—like the last one—specifically excludes the Fenix 8 Pro (currently priced at $1,199 on Amazon) and other Pro-branded smartwatches. If you own a Pro model, you will need to wait for a separate branch update.
The "Real" Changelog: What’s Actually Fixed?
While the feature enablement is the headline, the underlying fixes are crucial for daily usability. Here is a breakdown of the improvements packed into Beta Version 21.35:
- Multisport Equipment: Fixed a frustrating issue where gear could not be assigned to all sports within a multisport activity.
- Daily Alerts: Resolved a bug where only one goal alert was shown per day, ensuring you get all your motivational nudges.
- Strength Training UI: Addressed a problem where strength activities would show a black data screen on solar devices.
Glance Additions & Removals:
The sports scores glance is no longer missing from the Quatix 8 series.- The weight tracking glance has been restored for Tactix 8 Solar and Quatix 8 series owners.
- LTE Connectivity: Fixed issues where the LTE searching/standby banner was popping up too frequently.
- HIIT Stability: Fixed a possible crash when using the HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) activity.
- Navigation: Improved Course Planner performance for smoother route following.
- The Bigger Picture
This release feels like the final piece of the puzzle before a wide public rollout. For users who have been holding off on beta testing due to the missing Dive or ECG features, Version 21.35 might be the safe entry point you were waiting for.
