In the fast-paced world of smartphones, the "compact flagship" category has become a battleground for brands trying to offer big power in a small package. OnePlus has been a key player in this space, and in just a few days, the company is set to unveil the successor to its 2025 compact powerhouse, the OnePlus 13T.
The new device, officially dubbed the OnePlus 15T, has been the subject of a steady stream of leaks and official teasers. However, just ahead of the official unveiling, a reliable source has dropped what might be the final piece of the puzzle: the full technical specifications.
According to a post by the well-known leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the OnePlus 15T is shaping up to be a device of intriguing trade-offs and massive upgrades. You can view the original source leak here.
A Familiar Size with a Different Screen Tech
The OnePlus 15T will retain the 6.32-inch display size of its predecessor, a form factor that fans of compact phones have come to appreciate. However, the technology behind the screen is taking a surprising turn. While the OnePlus 13T utilized a power-efficient LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) panel, Digital Chat Station reports that the 15T will switch to an LTPS (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon) panel.
On paper, LTPS is generally considered less power-efficient than LTPO, which allows for dynamic refresh rate switching to save battery. So, why the change? OnePlus appears to be prioritizing sheer speed over variable efficiency.
The new display boasts a 1.5K resolution wrapped in super-slim bezels measuring just 1.1mm. But the headline feature is the refresh rate. The OnePlus 15T is rumored to feature a 165Hz refresh rate, a significant jump from the 120Hz panel found on the OnePlus 13T. For gamers and users who prioritize ultra-smooth scrolling, this could be a game-changer, even if it comes at a cost to the theoretical power savings of an LTPO panel.
Under the Hood: Power and Endurance
The OnePlus 15T is scheduled to be announced on March 24 in China, and it will launch with top-tier internals. Powering the device is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the same cutting-edge chipset found inside the larger OnePlus 15 flagship. For those curious about the larger model, you can check it out on Amazon for $899.99.
While the performance chip is top-tier, the battery is where this phone truly separates itself from the pack. The leaker claims the OnePlus 15T will pack a staggering 7,500mAh battery. To put that in perspective, the OnePlus 13T had a very respectable 6,260mAh cell. This massive capacity is coupled with 100W fast wired charging and—finally—50W fast wireless charging. This marks a major upgrade, as the OnePlus 13T lacked wireless charging capabilities entirely, maxing out at 80W wired.
Camera and Build Quality
For photography, the OnePlus 15T appears to be sticking with a dual-camera setup on the rear, featuring two 50MP sensors. Both rear cameras are expected to include Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The primary sensor comes in at a 1/1.56-inch size, while the second sensor is a periscope telephoto lens offering 3.5x optical zoom. On the front, a 16MP camera handles selfies and video calls.
In terms of build, OnePlus is sticking with premium materials. The phone will feature a metal frame and a glass back. Durability is also a key focus, with the device boasting a quadruple IP rating (IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K), making it exceptionally resistant to dust, water, and even high-pressure, high-temperature water jets.
Notably, the increased battery capacity has added a bit of weight. The OnePlus 15T is said to weigh 194 grams, up from the 185 grams of the OnePlus 13T.
Additional Features and Software
Other features confirmed by the leak include a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner for fast and secure unlocking, as well as an x-axis linear motor for haptic feedback.
On the software side, the OnePlus 15T will ship with ColorOS 16, which is expected to come packed with several new AI features. However, for fans outside of China, there is currently no news regarding an international release. Typically, these devices are rebranded as OxygenOS for global markets, but as of now, the launch appears focused on the Chinese market.
With the official announcement set for March 24, all eyes are on OnePlus to see if these leaks hold true. If they do, the OnePlus 15T will offer a unique blend of a compact form factor with a massive battery and an industry-leading refresh rate, even if it takes a slightly different path with its display technology.
