The smartwatch rumor mill is churning once again, and this time, it’s pointing toward OnePlus. For weeks, fans of the brand have been wondering when the successor to the OnePlus Watch 3 would arrive. Now, thanks to a trusted source on X (formerly Twitter), we have our clearest picture yet of what the OnePlus Watch 4 will look like—and it seems the launch is imminent.
The device has officially cleared the EMVCo approval process, a crucial step for any wearable that intends to support contactless payments. This clearance suggests that OnePlus is putting the finishing touches on the device, signaling a release date that is likely closer than many had anticipated.
The Leaker’s Track Record
The information comes courtesy of well-known industry leaker Sudhanshu Ambhore (@sudhanshu1414), who has a history of accurately revealing device specifications ahead of official announcements. In a recent post on X, Sudhanshu detailed a comprehensive list of specs that paint a picture of a device that focuses on durability and refinement rather than a complete overhaul.
Snapdragon W5 Gen 1: A Familiar Powerhouse
One of the most interesting takeaways from the leak is the processor choice. According to the specifications, the OnePlus Watch 4 will be powered by the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 SoC.
Launched back in 2023, this chipset features four Cortex A53 cores with a boost frequency of 1.7 GHz. While Qualcomm has since released the W5 Gen 2, OnePlus appears to be sticking with the proven performance and efficiency of the first-generation chip. For most users, this won’t be a detriment; the W5 Gen 1 is already known for delivering smooth animations and solid battery life in premium wearables, making it a reliable choice for the upcoming model.
Display and Design: Familiar Yet Refined
If you were hoping for a radical redesign, the leak suggests the Watch 4 will feel familiar to existing OnePlus Watch users. The device is expected to sport a 1.5-inch LPTO AMOLED display with a crisp resolution of 466 x 466.
Interestingly, the watch casing is said to be 47mm, which is a 1mm increase over the OnePlus Watch 3. However, since the display size is reportedly staying the same, this millimeter difference likely translates to slightly thicker bezels or a more robust casing rather than a larger screen-to-body ratio.

A Major Upgrade in Durability: IP69 Rating
While the internals might look similar to its predecessor on paper, the OnePlus Watch 4 is set to boast one significant improvement that outdoor enthusiasts will love: a stronger IP rating.
The leak indicates that OnePlus is bumping the rating from the standard IP68 found on the Watch 3 to an IP69 certification. This is a massive upgrade. While IP68 protects against submersion in water, IP69 specifically protects against high-pressure, high-temperature water jets.
This means the Watch 4 will be far better suited for outdoor activities, heavy rain, or even washing your hands under a high-pressure faucet without worry. It signals that OnePlus is positioning this device as a rugged companion capable of surviving harsher environments.
Battery and Variants: What’s in the Box?
Regarding battery life, it seems there will be no upgrades in capacity. The leak points to a 646-mAh battery, which is identical to the previous generation. However, with the efficiency of the W5 Gen 1 chipset and the power-saving benefits of the LPTO display, battery life is still expected to be excellent, likely maintaining the multi-day endurance the series is known for.
Upon searching the EMVCo database, two distinct variants were discovered: one with the model tag XL907 and another with XL905. This suggests that OnePlus might be preparing to launch two distinct versions of the Watch 4. It remains unclear whether this indicates a "Pro" model and a standard model, or perhaps an LTE variant alongside a Bluetooth-only version.
The Wear OS Conundrum
There is currently a slight discrepancy regarding the software. The leaker initially claimed the smartwatch would feature WearOS 5.0. However, the EMVCo listing explicitly mentions WearOS 6.0.
Given that Android 16-based WearOS 6 has already been available for some time, it is highly likely that the listing is the accurate source. Shipping with WearOS 6.0 out of the box would be the logical move for OnePlus, ensuring the device arrives with the latest features, security patches, and performance optimizations available.
Final Thoughts
The OnePlus Watch 4 is shaping up to be an iteration rather than a revolution. With a focus on durability via the IP69 rating, the retention of the reliable Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chip, and the likelihood of launching with the latest WearOS 6.0, OnePlus seems to be refining a formula that already worked well.
With EMVCo approval already secured, an official unveiling could be just weeks away. We will be keeping a close eye on this story as more details emerge regarding those two certified variants.
