Sony has officially flicked the switch on a major upgrade for the PlayStation 5 Pro. Following the successful debut of the enhanced PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology in Resident Evil Requiem a few weeks ago, the company has now begun rolling out a system-wide firmware update that extends these graphical improvements to over a dozen major titles.
The update, which started releasing in phases on March 16, introduces what many are calling PSSR 2.0 to a host of popular games, significantly improving image stability, detail clarity, and overall performance on Sony’s premium console .
Which Games Support PSSR 2.0?
In a new announcement on the PlayStation Blog, the company revealed that the latest PS5 system software update brings expanded support for PSSR 2.0. While Resident Evil Requiem served as the inaugural title for the technology, the following games can now take advantage of it immediately after the update:
- Silent Hill 2
- Silent Hill f
- Dragon Age: The Veilguard
- Control
- Alan Wake 2
- Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
- Nioh 3
- Rise of the Ronin
- Monster Hunter Wilds
- Dragon’s Dogma 2
Aside from these, Sony has confirmed that Crimson Desert will also support PSSR 2.0 on launch when it releases on March 19 . On the other hand, Assassin's Creed Shadows and Cyberpunk 2077 will receive a patch in the coming weeks that will bring support for the upgraded PSSR .
What Does PSSR 2.0 Actually Do?
PSSR is the PS5 Pro’s proprietary AI-driven upscaling technology, similar to NVIDIA’s DLSS or AMD’s FSR. It analyzes each frame pixel-by-pixel to reconstruct images at higher resolutions without taxing the GPU as heavily. With this 2.0 iteration, the AI processing has been refined.
According to Sony, this latest evolution allows for more precise image reconstruction and improved motion stability . For players, this means less "shimmering" on fine details like foliage or chain-link fences, and sharper image quality in performance modes.
In Silent Hill f, for example, the new PSSR results in clearer shadows and more visually detailed environmental elements like grass . Similarly, for Remedy Entertainment’s Alan Wake 2 and Control, the upgrade allows for "efficient stochastic sampling without sacrificing image stability," meaning the haunting atmospheres of Bright Falls and the Oldest House remain intact with smoother visuals .
How to Get the Update
According to Sony, the new PS5 system software update started rolling out today, March 16, at 10 AM PT, but it is being released gradually in phases . This means some users may receive it later than others. Sony also recommends manually checking for the system update through the Settings menu if it does not show up automatically. But over the next few days, the update should reach all PS5 Pro users.
Once the update is installed, players can navigate to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output and toggle on the "Enhance PSSR Image Quality" feature. While the results are designed to be seamless, Sony notes that if players experience any unexpected visual effects, they can disable the enhancement at any time .

The Future is Bright (and Sharp)
With Crimson Desert launching with native support later this week and heavy hitters like Cyberpunk 2077 waiting in the wings, the PS5 Pro is finally hitting the stride that players expected at launch . If you own a PS5 Pro, now is the perfect time to revisit some of these worlds—you might be surprised by how much better they look.
