| Wear OS 7 should give the Pixel Watch a longer battery life and numerous smaller improvements. |
The long-awaited Wear OS 7 update is landing much sooner than anyone expected. According to a freshly published changelog from Verizon, Google’s latest smartwatch operating system will begin rolling out to Pixel Watch models on June 9, 2026.
Just weeks after Google officially unveiled Wear OS 7 in mid-May, the carrier’s support document confirms the release is right around the corner. The catch? If you’re still rocking the original Pixel Watch from 2022, you won’t be invited to the party.
Which Pixel Watches Get Wear OS 7 First?
Verizon’s changelog explicitly lists three generations: the Pixel Watch 2, Pixel Watch 3, and the brand-new Pixel Watch 4 ($309 on Amazon). Notably absent is the first-generation Pixel Watch, which launched nearly four years ago.
That means Wear OS 7 will support similarly aged smartwatches as Apple’s watchOS 27 — a surprising move that underscores Google’s shifting focus toward newer hardware. While it’s not unheard of for a three-year-old device to miss out on major updates, first-gen Pixel Watch owners may feel left behind as widgets and battery optimizations arrive on later models.
What’s New in Wear OS 7? Widgets, Battery Life & More
Don’t call it a revolution, but Wear OS 7 brings several meaningful improvements. The headline feature is the replacement of full-screen tiles with widgets — and they look and behave almost exactly like Android widgets on your phone.
Why it matters: Widgets are more versatile and interactive than tiles. More importantly, developers can now port an existing Android widget to Wear OS with minimal extra work. That could rapidly expand the watch’s app ecosystem.
Google also promises roughly 10% longer battery life across compatible devices. While not a game-changer, every extra hour matters when you’re halfway through a long day.
Other notable additions include:
- Standardized workout app UI – Google is making core fitness features (heart rate monitoring, music playback controls) available to third-party workout apps, creating a more consistent experience.
- Multi-headphone streaming – Wear OS 7 lets you stream music to multiple Bluetooth headphones or Google Cast devices simultaneously. Perfect for sharing a run or gym session.
- Watch face optimizations – Reduced development effort for designers, which should lead to more high-quality faces arriving faster.
Release Date: June 9, 2026 — With a Catch
According to Verizon’s official support page, the update rolls out June 9, 2026. As usual, carrier changelogs are sparse — Verizon simply notes the update includes “Wear OS 7, the latest security patch, and performance improvements.”
But here’s what we don’t know yet:
- Will other carriers follow the same date?
- What about unlocked Pixel Watch models bought directly from Google?
- Is the June 9 date a full global rollout or a phased start?
Historically, Verizon has been one of the first to publish detailed update timelines, so it’s likely that Google will officially confirm the release within days — if not hours.

Should You Upgrade?
If you own a Pixel Watch 2 or newer, absolutely. The widget system alone makes navigation faster, and the battery improvement is always welcome. Third-party workout apps will finally feel less fragmented, and multi-headphone streaming adds real-world utility.
For first-gen Pixel Watch owners? You’re stuck with Wear OS 6. Given the 2022 hardware’s aging processor and smaller battery, it’s likely Google decided the update wouldn’t run well enough to justify the rollout. That’s cold comfort, but it may be time to start looking at the Pixel Watch 4 on Amazon — especially with the $309 price tag.
What About Other Wear OS Watches?
Google still hasn’t published a full list of compatible smartwatches beyond the Pixel lineup. Samsung, Fossil, Mobvoi, and others will need to confirm their own Wear OS 7 rollout schedules. Historically, Samsung has been quick to follow Google’s lead, so expect a One UI Watch update based on Wear OS 7 within a few months.
For now, all eyes are on June 9. If Verizon’s changelog is accurate, Pixel Watch 2, 3, and 4 owners will wake up to a very different — and more capable — smartwatch experience by the end of next week.
