It's been a long two years since we first plunged into the chaotic, neon-drenched streets of New Eridu. But Proxy, your days of street-level crawling are officially over. This summer, Zenless Zone Zero is taking you somewhere the air is a lot thinner—and the stakes are infinitely higher.

HoYoverse has officially locked in June 17, 2026, as the global launch date for the massive Version 3.0 update, titled “A Sleepwalker’s Confession.” If the news of a new region and new S-Rank agents wasn't enough to shake up your daily grind, the distribution strategy certainly will. In a significant shift away from its isolated launcher ecosystem, Zenless Zone Zero is finally breaking the client wall.

The Steam version is arriving on day one alongside the console and mobile updates.

Full Cross-Progression and Ray-Traced Skies

For those of us who split our gaming time between a gaming rig, a PS5 in the living room, or a tablet while commuting, this is the quality-of-life update we’ve been begging for. The Steam launch supports full cross-platform progression and cloud saves. That means your account—your pulls, your agents, and your progress—travels seamlessly with you. You can finally ditch the separate launcher and let Steam manage your library.

But HoYoverse isn’t just dropping a store page and calling it a day. The technical side of the PC engine is getting a serious overhaul to support the new hardware capabilities. Version 3.0 introduces native, real-time global illumination via ray tracing, alongside full support for NVIDIA DLSS Super-Resolution and Frame Generation. The results are stunning; early gameplay comparisons show a massive jump in lighting depth and scene fidelity, especially on RTX hardware.

“PC players will finally experience New Eridu and the skies of Roscaelifer with a level of visual fidelity the game has never seen before.”

Welcome to Roscaelifer: The Sky Island and "Pyrois"

So, where exactly are we going? Version 3.0 pulls us away from the underground Hollows and into the clouds. The narrative moves to Roscaelifer, an enigmatic restricted zone floating above the world.

The story kicks off with the Proxies being personally invited by the Mayor of New Eridu to treat a mysterious Ether energy spiraling out of control in their bodies. Enter Velina, the Administrative Director of the External Strategy Department, who guides the Proxies into this new world under the guise of transfer students. Here, they begin to uncover the secrets of a hidden power within themselves known as Pyrois.

Of course, a new region means new faces on the banner—and one massive gift for the community.

The Agents of Version 3.0

  • Velina (S-Rank, Wind/Anomaly): The game’s first Wind-attribute agent. Her kit applies a Windswept state, and when combined with other anomalies, she triggers a Vortex effect that deals massive area-of-effect damage.
  • Norma (S-Rank, Fire/Stun): A genius technician from the Marcel Group. Norma utilizes a unique Preheated Chamber mechanic that accumulates charges even when she is off-field, allowing her to convert Quick Assists into additional Chain Attacks.
  • Pyrois (Free S-Rank, Ether/Attack): Breaking the mold, HoYoverse is giving the Phaethon faction agent Pyrois to all players for free as a Season 3 launch reward. Completing the main story questline will also net you a seasonal story outfit for your Proxy.

Permanent End-Game Modes and Smart Optimization

Live-service games live or die by their endgame content. Version 3.0 is looking to address the long-term loop with two brand-new permanent modes designed to test different aspects of your roster and skill.

  • Bangbang! The Genius and the Miracle Chip: This mode tasks players with commanding special Collaborator squads to repair the Central Computing Hub. It focuses on squad management and research progression, giving you a break from pure combat.
  • Annihilation Simulacrum: For those who crave a challenge, this high-difficulty boss rush removes all elemental weaknesses and resistances. In this mode, your elemental matchups don't matter; only your mechanical execution and dodging skills will save you.

Beyond new modes, HoYoverse is streamlining the daily grind. The update introduces a Drive Disc Smart Discard function, allowing for batch processing of unwanted gear, alongside a Tuning interface that automatically prioritizes compatible sets from your active training plans.

How It Compares to the Competition

This massive update lands at an interesting time in the urban action-RPG space. Competitors like Wuthering Waves are currently dealing with heavy technical strain; recent reports indicate that high-end Android and iOS processors are struggling to maintain stable frame rates and acceptable thermal temperatures following their latest cyberpunk update. By landing on Steam with a focus on stable optimization, high-fidelity PC graphics, and generous free rewards, Zenless Zone Zero seems poised to capture a wide swath of players looking for a smoother, more accessible experience.
