Citizen has quietly added another chronograph to its UK website, and this one gives the CA4714 family a fresh look. The new CA4714-55A pairs a silver-tone dial with a black tachymeter bezel and a stainless-steel bracelet. It’s priced at £369, or roughly $489 at current exchange rates. Citizen UK files it under its Classic collection and calls it the Racing Chronograph.
The reference may be new, but the watch itself isn’t. Citizen brought the CA4714 series to Europe back in January with three versions: a cream dial on leather, a black dial on a bracelet, and a second black dial on a leather strap. This silver-tone model doesn’t appear on Citizen’s European site, nor does it show up at the Dutch and German retailers that stock the rest of the family. For now, Citizen UK looks to be the only place selling it.
A familiar chronograph layout
The design is exactly what you’d expect from a chronograph at this price. Three sub-dials sit on the dial, with a date window tucked between 4 and 5 o’clock. The chronograph seconds hand is red, matching the red accents on the pushers. The case is stainless steel and measures 39.9 mm wide and 12.3 mm thick, though Citizen UK rounds that down to 39 mm on its spec panel. A mineral crystal protects the dial, the case back screws down, and water resistance is rated at 100m.
Inside, the CA4714-55A runs on Citizen’s own B620 Eco-Drive movement. It charges from light, holds up to 270 days of reserve on a full charge, and is rated at ±15 seconds per month. The chronograph measures up to 60 minutes in 1/5-second steps, and there’s also a 24-hour sub-dial and a battery discharge indicator. UK pricing stands out
Pricing is where things get interesting. The black-dial CA4714-55E launched in Europe at €269 in January. Subtract the tax from both figures, and the UK price works out about 61% higher — roughly $407 against $253. That’s a noticeable gap for a watch in the same series, although UK shoppers may not have another option if they want this specific silver-tone version.
Should you buy it?
If you want a sub-40mm Eco-Drive chronograph with a classic racing look and don’t mind mineral glass, the CA4714-55A makes a sensible everyday pick. The silver dial and black bezel give it a versatile, slightly sporty feel, while the B620 movement offers the low-maintenance ownership Eco-Drive fans expect. Just be aware that the UK-only positioning and higher effective price may make it less of a bargain than its European siblings.
Citizen hasn’t made a big song and dance about the launch, but the CA4714-55A is available now from Citizen UK. Whether it eventually reaches mainland Europe remains to be seen.
