Keychron Unveils Stunning All-Wood K8 HE Keyboard with Walnut Body and Magnetic Switches

Gateron double-rail magnetic switches support per-key actuation in 0.1mm steps, Rapid Trigger and analog input.

Mechanical keyboard enthusiasts have something new to get excited about. Keychron has just released an All-Wood Special Edition of its popular K8 HE magnetic-switch keyboard, swapping out the standard case for a gorgeous walnut wood body that brings a touch of nature to your desktop setup.

A Keyboard That's Truly One of a Kind

The tenkeyless keyboard is priced at $199.99 on Keychron's website. For those looking to get their hands on one, orders from the US warehouse will begin shipping on October 2nd, while global orders will ship starting October 7th due to holiday customs closures.

What makes this edition stand out is its construction. The frame and bottom case are crafted from walnut, paired with CNC-machined aluminum side panels in brown and an aluminum plate inside. According to Keychron, the natural grain of the wood means no two units look exactly alike, giving each keyboard its own unique character.

The keyboard connects over 2.4GHz, Bluetooth 5.2 or USB-C, with a 1,000Hz polling rate on wired and 2.4GHz.

The All-Wood edition costs $199.99, $60 more than the wood-trimmed K8 HE Special Edition.

Premium Keycaps and Switches

The keyboard ships with deep-brown OSA-profile double-shot PBT keycaps, which unfortunately are not shine-through. Buyers will also receive extra Mac and Windows keycaps along with a system toggle for easy switching between operating systems.

Underneath the keycaps, you'll find pre-lubed Gateron double-rail magnetic Nebula switches that are hot-swappable. However, there's an important caveat: the keyboard is only compatible with the double-rail magnetic switches that Keychron sells on its website. According to EnosTech, Keychron's sensor layout makes the keyboard incompatible with many third-party magnetic switches, including those designed for Wooting keyboards.

Advanced Customization Features

The K8 HE All-Wood edition offers impressive customization options. Users can set the actuation point of each key between 0.2mm and 3.8mm in 0.1mm steps, allowing for precise control over how sensitive each key feels. The keyboard also supports Rapid Trigger, Dynamic Keystrokes with up to four actions per key, Last Key Priority, Snap Click, and an analog mode that registers how far a key is pressed.

Keychron is pitching this analog mode particularly for racing and sports games, where gradual input can make a difference. It's worth noting that Last Key Priority and Snap Click are disabled by default, so users will need to enable them through the software if they want to use these features.

Connectivity and Battery Life

When it comes to connectivity, the K8 HE All-Wood has you covered with multiple options. It supports 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.2 for up to three devices, and wired USB-C. The polling rate reaches an impressive 1,000Hz in wired and 2.4GHz modes, though it drops to 125Hz over Bluetooth.

Battery life is solid as well, with a 4,000mAh battery that lasts up to 110 hours when the north-facing RGB backlight is switched off.

Software and Sound Dampening

The keyboard runs open-source QMK firmware and is configured through Keychron's Launcher web app. Interestingly, the Launcher now includes an AI assistant that can turn plain-language requests into settings, making customization more accessible for users who may not be familiar with technical configurations.

Inside the case, Keychron has fitted a 3.5mm layer of EVA foam, EPDM foam, and a PET film to dampen typing noise, ensuring a pleasant acoustic experience.

Specs and Pricing Context

In terms of dimensions, the All-Wood edition measures 365.94 by 133.13mm, sits at a fixed 4-degree typing angle, and weighs 1,009g. For comparison, the standard K8 HE weighs about 1,185g, making the wooden version slightly lighter.

Keychron originally launched the K8 HE in May 2025, with the Standard Edition priced at $129.99 and a Special Edition with wood trim on each end at $139.99. The company also sells All-Wood versions of the K2 HE and K3 Max, so this isn't their first foray into wooden keyboards.

For those concerned about durability, Keychron says its wooden keyboards carry a coating that resists sweat and moisture, and that the wood develops a patina over time, meaning your keyboard will actually look better with age.

Whether you're a keyboard enthusiast looking for something unique or simply want a beautiful piece of functional art on your desk, the K8 HE All-Wood Special Edition certainly makes a compelling case for itself.
