| With Mythic Achievements, Microsoft is introducing a new reward for fully completed Xbox games. |
If you’re the type of player who refuses to put down a controller until every last collectible is found and every difficulty setting is conquered, Xbox has a new badge of honor just for you. Microsoft is officially rolling out a brand-new distinction called "Mythic Achievements," designed to celebrate the ultimate completionists in the community.
Here is how it works: A game earns Mythic status when a player unlocks every single achievement that was available at the time of the game's original launch. It’s important to note that achievements added later via DLC, expansions, or post-launch content updates don't count toward this specific honor—those remain categorized separately as "Add-on" achievements. The best part? Once you’ve secured that Mythic status, you keep it forever, even if the developers decide to add more content down the line.
A Fresh Look for Your Profile
Alongside this new award, Microsoft is giving the achievement display on Xbox profiles a major facelift. A new "Gaming" tab is being introduced that consolidates your achievements, fully completed games, and Mythic awards into one central hub. This tab will also give you a quick snapshot of how much progress you need to make before hitting your next Gamerscore milestone.
Visually, Mythic titles will stand out with a more prominent, stylized border, making them instantly recognizable to anyone who visits your profile. For games that haven't quite reached the finish line yet, a handy progress bar will show exactly how close you are to securing that Mythic distinction. You can read the full breakdown of these console features on the official Xbox Wire post here.
A Blast from the Past
Perhaps the most exciting aspect of this update for veteran players is that the feature is entirely retroactive. You won’t need to replay your entire library to earn these badges. Games that you fully completed years ago—including titles from the Xbox 360 era—will automatically receive the Mythic distinction. According to Microsoft, this means players who have been diligently completing games for decades could log in to find a treasure trove of Mythic awards waiting for them once the system goes live.
The Community Reacts
Unsurprisingly, the reveal has gone over exceptionally well with the hardcore achievement-hunting community. Over on Reddit, players are praising the new presentation and the satisfying new unlock sound that accompanies a Mythic achievement. The retroactive awarding is also earning widespread approval, as it finally gives long-time players credit for their historical grinding.
However, not everyone is completely satisfied. Some users are hoping that Mythic Achievements might come with a Gamerscore bonus to match their prestige. Others have pointed out that the difficulty of "completing" a game varies wildly from title to title, making a universal standard tricky. The most common criticism, though, isn't about the feature itself, but rather its availability. Many users are expressing frustration that new features are always tested by Insiders first, leaving the general public in the dark about when they will get their hands on the update. You can join the discussion and see the community's mixed reactions in the original Reddit thread here.
For now, the feature remains exclusive to Xbox Insider program participants, and even within that group, the rollout appears to be gradual. There is currently no official word on when Mythic Achievements will become available to the wider Xbox audience.
