Casio's $80,000 G-Shock MRGD5000 Blue Sapphire Is Coming to the US — and Only 6 Will Be Available

Casio’s new G-Shock MR-G MRGD5000 watch

Casio is bringing one of its most exclusive timepieces ever to American shores. The G-Shock MR-G MRGD5000 Blue Sapphire, a limited-edition digital watch first unveiled in Japan in early October 2026, has been confirmed for a US release. But here's the catch: only 20 pieces exist worldwide, and just six of them are earmarked for US customers. Each will retail for a staggering $80,000.

A G-Shock Unlike Any Other

The MRGD5000 isn't just another premium G-Shock — it represents a genuine first for the brand. According to Casio, it's the first G-Shock timepiece to achieve a shock-resistant structure using components made with blue sapphire crystal. The proprietary MR-G Multi-Guard Structure employs a bezel and case composed of multiple separate components assembled without screws, which can cause sapphire crystal to crack. Casio analyzed the force transmitted to the sapphire when subjected to impact and developed a structure optimized for protecting the material.

Blue sapphire crystal is also set into the screw-lock case back, which is engraved with an individual serial number marking each of the 20 limited-edition timepieces. The casing incorporates titanium elements, and the watch is fitted with a Dura Soft rubber strap finished with a one-touch 3-fold clasp.

Serious Specs Beneath the Sapphire

Despite its luxury positioning, the MRGD5000 remains a true G-Shock at heart. Features include radio control via Multi Band 6, support for up to five time zones, and a fully automatic calendar. The digital display provides access to a countdown timer, stopwatch, and alarms, while water resistance is rated to 200 meters. The module incorporates Gallium Tough Solar for outstanding durability under intense light and highly efficient charging. You can explore the full specifications on the official Casio product page.

Staggered US Availability

The six US-bound MRGD5000 timepieces will arrive in small numbers — perhaps even one at a time — between December 2026 and June 2027. Casio also announced two additional sapphire-focused releases: the MRGB5000SA, a 500-piece limited edition priced at $6,600, and the GMWB5000SB, a full-metal G-Shock at $770. Both will be available starting in November 2026 at gshock.com, the G-SHOCK Soho Store, and select retailers. For the full announcement, you can read the official Casio press release.

Why It Matters

The MR-G collection has consistently defied convention since its launch in 1996, drawing on fine processing technologies and master craftsmanship to create timepieces that combine toughness and beauty. With the MRGD5000, Casio is making a bold statement: even the most precious materials can be engineered to survive the impossible. For collectors, the combination of extreme scarcity, genuine horological innovation, and the G-Shock name makes this a grail piece worth watching — even if most will never get the chance to wear one.
