| E-Power Trekking 28 PX8 RD Wave: Powerful e-bike with a full range of equipment |
Corratec has unveiled its 2027 E-Power Trekking 28 PX8 RD Wave Automatic, a feature-rich trekking e-bike that combines a powerful Bosch mid-drive motor with Shimano's electronic automatic shifting and a generous 800 Wh battery.
If you've ever found yourself fumbling for the right gear while navigating stop-and-go city traffic, Corratec's latest offering might be worth a closer look. The German e-bike specialist's new E-Power Trekking 28 PX8 RD Wave Automatic sits at the top of its trekking range for the 2027 model year, and its headline feature is exactly what the name suggests: automatic gear changes.
Automatic Shifting Takes Center Stage
At the heart of the drivetrain is Shimano's CUES RD-U8050 Di2 11-speed electronic derailleur system, paired with an SW-EN605 shift switch. Because the system is electronically actuated, it can handle gear changes automatically — a boon for riders who'd rather focus on the road than on their shifters. This is particularly useful in urban environments with frequent stops, where manual shifting often gets neglected. And while a strong motor can mask poor gear choices to some extent, staying in the wrong gear puts unnecessary strain on the drivetrain over time.
The automatic function doesn't eliminate manual control entirely, but it does reduce the cognitive load of riding — a small quality-of-life improvement that commuters and leisure riders alike will appreciate.
Bosch Power and Serious Range
Corratec hasn't skimped on the motor, either. The bike uses Bosch's Performance Line PX Smart System (BDU34), which delivers a hefty 90 Nm of torque. That's enough grunt to flatten steep climbs and haul loaded panniers without complaint. Feeding the motor is an 800 Wh Bosch PowerTube 800 Horizontal battery — a substantial capacity that should translate into impressive range for commuting, touring, and battling headwinds.
Riders get a Bosch Kiox 500 color display alongside an LED controller. The Kiox unit does more than show speed and battery level; it can also display navigation directions, making it a genuinely useful cockpit companion rather than a decorative afterthought.
Comfort and Everyday Practicality
The PX8's comfort credentials are solid. Up front, an air-sprung SR Suntour NVX32 Boost Air fork offers 80 mm of travel, while wide 55 mm Schwalbe Marathon Performance tires help smooth out rough paths. A Selle Royal Look-in Evo Moderate Wide saddle with Royal Gel adds plushness, and a suspension dropper post (30.9 mm, 75–100 mm travel) lets riders lower the saddle at stops or on descents. An adjustable alloy stem and 660 mm handlebar with 29-degree backsweep round out an upright, relaxed riding position.
Stopping power comes from Tektro Orion HD-M6040 four-piston hydraulic disc brakes front and rear — a reassuring spec given the bike's likely weight, which Corratec hasn't published but which almost certainly exceeds 25 kg.
Ready for the Road
As a proper trekking bike, the PX8 comes fully equipped. Front and rear fenders, a kickstand, and a chain guard are all standard. Lighting duties fall to a Herrmans MR8 180 lm front light and a Herrmans BL-21 Plus rear light with brake light function. The MIK HD rear rack supports up to 27 kg of cargo, making grocery runs and bikepacking trips viable. The maximum permissible total weight is a healthy 140 kg.
Pricing and Availability
The E-Power Trekking 28 PX8 RD Wave Automatic is priced at €4,599 (UVP) and is available in XS, S, and M frame sizes. The wave-style aluminum frame — which makes mounting and dismounting easier — comes in a Black, Dark Beige, and Blue colorway. Corratec notes that the PX8 offers more battery capacity and a higher-grade electronic shifting solution than its PX7 siblings.
For riders in Germany and Austria, there's also the option of leasing through JobRad, with savings of up to 40% depending on individual tax circumstances.
The Verdict
With its Bosch Performance Line PX motor, 800 Wh battery, automatic Shimano Di2 shifting, and comprehensive everyday equipment, the Corratec E-Power Trekking 28 PX8 RD Wave Automatic looks like a compelling package for commuters and touring riders who want technology to do some of the thinking. At €4,599 it's not cheap, but the spec sheet suggests you're getting a lot of bike for the money — and one that's ready to ride straight off the shop floor.
