| Frostpunk launches for Nintendo Switch on October 19. A free demo is already available to download. |
Frostpunk has always been a city-builder with a cruel streak. Set in a frozen world where only a handful of settlements remain, it puts players in charge of New London and asks them to build it up from the ice. But unlike traditional city-builders, the goal isn’t to create a bustling metropolis. It’s to keep people alive. As the leader, you’ll face morally questionable decisions, like legalizing child labor to fill a desperate worker shortage—at the cost of safety and morale.
Originally released for PC in April 2018, Frostpunk later came to PS4, Xbox One, and smartphones. Nintendo fans were left out—until now. 11 bit studios had already announced a Switch version in April 2026, and on October 5, the studio confirmed the exact release date in a new trailer: October 19. That’s a big moment for Nintendo players, especially since Frostpunk is widely considered one of the leading survival strategy games, with highly positive ratings on Steam and Metacritic.
A Nintendo Switch release finally confirmed
The wait is almost over, and 11 bit studios is making it easy to prepare. The Nintendo eShop product page is already live, complete with pre-orders and a free demo. According to the announcement, Frostpunk is being released for the original Switch, but it should also be playable on the Switch 2 (currently $663 on Amazon) thanks to backward compatibility.
Two editions and launch discounts
At launch, players will have two editions to choose from. The standard edition costs $29.99, while the Complete Edition is priced at $45 and includes all three expansions: The Rifts, The Last Autumn, and On The Edge. 11 bit studios is also offering a 30% launch discount on the standard edition and 35% off the Complete Edition. For anyone who wants the full Frostpunk experience on Nintendo hardware, that’s a tempting offer.
A new release trailer was published alongside the date announcement, giving fans another look at the game’s bleak, snow-covered world and the tough choices waiting for them. You can watch it here.
Why Frostpunk still stands out
Frostpunk launches on October 19. Whether you play on the original Switch or a Switch 2, the core challenge remains the same: keep the generator running, manage your citizens’ hope and discontent, and decide how much of your humanity you’re willing to sacrifice. For strategy fans who have been waiting for a portable version of 11 bit studios’ frostbitten survival hit, this is one release to mark on the calendar.
