| Men of War: Assault Squad is 90% off on Steam until October 8. |
If you’re in the mood for a strategy game that actually makes you think before you click, there’s a tempting deal running on Steam right now. Men of War: Assault Squad is currently available with a 90% discount, bringing its usual price of around $10 down to just **$1**. According to SteamDB, this matches the game’s previous all-time low. Handheld strategy fans have another reason to take notice too: the title is rated as “Playable” on the Steam Deck.
In Men of War: Assault Squad, players are dropped into the battlefields of World War II with several nations to command, including the US, Germany, the Soviet Union, Japan, and the British Commonwealth forces. The action spans theaters from Europe to the Pacific. Your goals often involve capturing control points, breaking through enemy lines, and outmaneuvering opposing forces rather than simply throwing more units into the fight.
What helps the game stand out from other real-time strategy titles is the level of direct control it offers. You can take command of nearly every unit yourself, from a single infantryman to tanks and artillery pieces. That means you can line up a precise shot, reposition a tank for a better angle, or order a soldier to toss a grenade into an enemy position. Line of sight, cover, ammunition, and—when armor is involved—armor thickness and penetration all play a role. Rushing forward without a plan usually ends badly. The destructible environments add another layer of chaos: walls can collapse, explosions leave craters, and vehicles show visible battle damage.
You can find the deal on the Men of War: Assault Squad Steam page.

In GameStar’s German review, the game earned praise for its challenging battles, realistic physics, and detailed damage model—features that should test even veteran tacticians. Its extensive multiplayer, especially the co-op mode, was also well received. In co-op, players fight together against AI troops, while competitive multiplayer lets them square off against one another. GameStar even described Men of War as “unrivaled” when it comes to realistic co-op strategy gaming.
That said, the review wasn’t without criticism. Points were deducted for dated technology, weaknesses in the AI, and a somewhat underwhelming single-player mode, partly because there is no traditional campaign. Even with its positive overall conclusion, GameStar gave the game 70 out of 100. Over on Steam, player reception is stronger, with 87% positive feedback from around 5,000 reviews.
For $1, though, it’s hard to argue with the value—especially if you enjoy WWII strategy, direct unit control, and co-op battles that reward patience over mindless rushing. If you’ve been curious about the series or want a cheap tactical challenge for your Steam Deck, this is a deal worth grabbing before it disappears.
