OnePlus may not be done with international markets after all. A fresh leak suggests the company is quietly testing global and Indian software builds for the OnePlus 16, raising hopes that the flagship won't remain a China-exclusive.
OnePlus 16 Global Software Testing Spotted
According to tipster Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd on X), OnePlus is testing software for a "global/Indian" variant of the OnePlus 16 under three separate model numbers: CPH2901, CPH2903, and CPH2905. The tipster was careful to note that a launch is not confirmed yet, so treat this one with the usual pinch of salt.
It's a meaningful development given the context. Earlier this year, OnePlus withdrew from several major international markets, including Europe and North America, while remaining active in India. Previous rumors even suggested the OnePlus 16 would skip India entirely. If these model numbers are genuine, that narrative may be shifting.
A OnePlus 16R Could Be in the Works Too
The same leak points to another device in development: the PYP110, which appears in a high-refresh gaming list and reportedly hits 185Hz in games. Yadav believes this is most likely the OnePlus 16R, and notes it's a different device from the OnePlus Ace 7 and Ace 7 Pro.
There's also a CPH2887 model number mentioned in the same gaming list, though its identity remains unclear for now. A separate 16R would give OnePlus a way to cover a lower price tier internationally while keeping the main OnePlus 16 as the halo device.
OnePlus 16 Specs: A 9,000mAh Monster
For reference, the OnePlus 16 has already launched in China as the company's flagship, succeeding the OnePlus 15. The headline specs are genuinely wild:
- 6.78-inch AMOLED display with an adaptive refresh rate of 165Hz outside gaming and up to 185Hz in supported titles
- Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset
- A massive 9,000mAh battery
That battery capacity is far beyond what most global flagships offer, and it's the kind of spec that would turn heads if the phone does make it to India or other markets.
What This Means for Buyers
Nothing is official yet. OnePlus hasn't confirmed a release for the OnePlus 16 outside China, and software testing doesn't always translate into a retail launch. Model numbers can be shelved, and regional plans can change — as OnePlus has demonstrated more than once this year.
Still, the leak is the strongest signal yet that OnePlus hasn't fully closed the door on international availability for its 2026 flagship. For fans in India especially, the CPH2901/2903/2905 testing is worth watching closely.
Waiting? The OnePlus 15 Is Still a Serious Option
If you're not keen on waiting for a launch that may or may not happen, the previous-generation OnePlus 15 remains an excellent value pick and is currently available at TradingShenzhen in a 12GB/256GB configuration.
It packs a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED panel at 165Hz, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a LUMO triple 50MP camera system with 3.5x optical zoom, and a 7,300mAh battery with 120W wired and 50W wireless charging. It's IP68/IP69 rated, ships with Google Play pre-installed, and comes with a 14-day return window and a one-year guarantee. For anyone who wants flagship performance now rather than later, it's a compelling stopgap.
The Bottom Line
The OnePlus 16 global leak is promising but unconfirmed. Three model numbers and a possible 16R suggest OnePlus is at least exploring a return to international shelves — and that alone is more optimism than fans have had in months. Until OnePlus makes it official, keep expectations measured and your options open.
