In a notable step forward for PS5 homebrew and emulation fans, a new GitHub project called ProsperoEden is aiming to bring Nintendo Switch emulation to Sony’s PlayStation 5. Created by user blackbearreloaded, the project is available to try on jailbroken PS5 consoles. It’s built on Eden, an open-source Nintendo Switch emulator that already supports Windows, Linux, macOS, and Android. ProsperoEden extends that compatibility to PS5 hardware.
Switch Emulation on PS5 Is Still Very Early
ProsperoEden is brand new, and its latest release is still in alpha. Even so, it’s already surprisingly capable. Several games are playable, but none are currently playable from start to finish. Performance also varies a lot depending on the title.
Here’s what early reports show:
- Cuphead – playable at 60 FPS.
- Metroid Dread – playable; reaches a maximum of 40 FPS.
- Super Mario 3D World – playable at around 30–45 FPS.
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – reaches around 40 FPS in a small window only and runs with major issues.
- Hollow Knight – performance varies by project build; previously reached 60 FPS in specific sections.
- Horizon Chase Turbo – playable at 50 FPS.
- Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch – runs with major issues at 30 FPS.
- Mario vs. Donkey Kong – runs with major issues at 40 FPS.
- Pokémon Legends Z-A – only reaches the language selection screen, which runs at 5.5 FPS; crashes when shut down.
- Summerhouse – playable at 25 FPS.
- New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe – playable at 50–60 FPS, with FPS dropping to 25 in some sections.
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons – runs at only 15 FPS, with major issues.
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 8–10 average FPS while in-game; menus run smoothly at 30 FPS.
If you want to follow development or try it on a compatible jailbroken PS5, you can check out ProsperoEden on GitHub. Early clips and reports, including this post from TheWizWiki on X, offer a good look at how the project is progressing.
ProsperoEden Features and Compatibility
Currently, ProsperoEden uses only OpenGL and has no Vulkan support. It runs on PS5 firmware version 6.02, with user reports confirming support for firmware version 12.70, but only for older builds of the project. ProsperoEden also supports DualSense controls and saves, and it even includes a native performance overlay.

Final Thoughts
For now, ProsperoEden is one to watch. It’s not a finished solution, and many games still struggle. But the fact that Nintendo Switch emulation is running at all on jailbroken PS5 hardware is impressive. As development continues, performance and compatibility could improve significantly. For emulation fans, it’s a project worth keeping an eye on.
As always, emulation and jailbreaking laws vary by region, and you should only use software and games you legally own.
