A brand-new sneak peek at Lara Croft's Unreal Engine 5 reimagining has arrived, and it's packed with nostalgic callbacks for longtime fans.
October 26, 2026 – Fans of the iconic Tomb Raider series have something major to celebrate this week. Amazon Games, Crystal Dynamics, and Flying Wild Hog have unveiled a fresh teaser trailer for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, timed perfectly to coincide with the franchise's 30th anniversary.
The footage was first shown to attendees at TR30 Derby – an unofficial fan celebration held in the very city where Core Design created Lara Croft – and at MCM London, before going online on October 25. The original Tomb Raider launched on Sega Saturn in October 1996, published by Eidos Interactive and developed in Derby, so the location for the reveal couldn't have been more fitting.
The official Tomb Raider social media channels teased the drop with a cryptic message: "If you think 'you've seen enough,' this video contains teases of iconic content 👀" The new teaser on X has already sparked plenty of discussion, with one fan noting that Lara's infamous Midas death animation appears to be making a return – a callback that's sure to delight veterans of the 1996 classic.
A Ground-Up Reimagining in Unreal Engine 5
As Tomb Raider Chronicles reports, Legacy of Atlantis is a complete reimagining of the 1996 original, rebuilt from scratch in Unreal Engine 5 by Flying Wild Hog in collaboration with Crystal Dynamics. The story follows Lara Croft as she travels through Peru, Greece, Egypt, and a mysterious island shrouded in myth, all in search of the scattered pieces of the Scion – an ancient artifact central to her very first adventure.
The developers have described the project as a "true reimagining" that honors the original while expanding the narrative with new links between Lara's first expedition and the events of her later life. Alix Wilton Regan takes on voice duties for Lara Croft this time around.
Modernized Gameplay with a Classic Feel
While the teaser is billed as a sneak peek, the core gameplay systems were detailed earlier this year. Lara now carries a grappling hook, allowing her to climb, leap, and swing across treacherous terrain. She also wields an archaeological scanner – an optional tool that helps her survey her surroundings and uncover hidden clues.
Combat introduces a focus meter that fills as Lara deals damage, takes hits, and successfully dodges attacks. Once charged, time slows around her, enabling acrobatic moves that turn the tide of battle. Crystal Dynamics detailed the Focus system in an August developer diary.
A skill tree also returns, with players earning skill points from artifacts to unlock upgrades such as faster fire rate and improved healing. Crafting is back too, and yes – Lara's iconic dual pistols return as well. In fact, the developers have confirmed the game can be completed using only her signature weapons.
Release Date, Platforms, and Editions
Mark your calendars: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis launches February 12, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2 – all on the same day. The date was originally confirmed back in June via the PlayStation Blog, when the game shifted out of its initial 2026 window. (Note: the release date in Japan, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand is February 13.)
Pre-orders are now open. The Standard Edition is priced at $59.99 and includes the full game plus a Survivor Outfit pre-order bonus. The Deluxe Edition, at $69.99, adds 48-hour early launch access, the Parisian Fugitive Outfit, and a post-launch DLC Story Pack.
What Else Is New?
The PlayStation Blog also shed light on how the game reworks its iconic locations. In Peru's Lost Valley, puzzles have been rebuilt from the ground up. Where the original moved players from one self-contained room to the next, Legacy of Atlantis opens those spaces into semi-connected environments that can be traversed and explored from new angles. Every space is designed as a real place first, rich with secrets, collectibles, and resources for those who take the time to look.
Even returning favorites like the cog puzzle have been reimagined and grounded in the world around them, while an earlier trailer focused specifically on the reworked Greek levels.
With a 30th anniversary celebration in full swing, a fresh teaser full of nostalgic Easter eggs, and a February 2027 release date locked in, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is shaping up to be the definitive way to experience where Lara Croft's legend began – whether you're a longtime fan or meeting her for the first time.
Stay tuned for more coverage as we approach the game's launch.
