Today's 11th update: digitizing 5400 transparencies (35mm fixed chips) (2,400 dpi) and burning DVDs. You can only use color reduction, which does not extend scanning time. We will look at each preview group with 4 images, then select the images we want to color (click the slide, and do not click the check boxes. Keep the check boxes under control in each preview ... This is an analysis for Reader knows what to number (the four slides that I just previewed it.)

The 5400 Super Large Slide Project costs $ 199 and includes a blank DVD and a USB backup on an empty USB drive. We also provided hard drives and external docking stations to ensure data backup. Not bad, we also have an excellent scanner. It is much cheaper than payment services. It deserves to work in less than two weeks!

Context: Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus on dark painting; 25 years in the dark. Register as a scanning expert / scanner (You can ignore the following paragraphs and erase some older slides. Visit the settings that have worked well for us.)

I have been a digital imaging specialist at Thomson Learning / Gill Research for 10 years. I use PhotoShop 3.0+, Flatbed Scanner, Photo Edit, and even Nikon Coolscan Chip Scanner with Auto Charger, 8 hours a day for ten years. I remember that a slide feeder can contain about 40 portable slides and that each slide scan took about 8 minutes. Paper jam occurs one or two times daily. I will use digital photos in our books, dictionaries, and resources / databases online versus our universities and public libraries. Meaning: You are in a professional publishing environment. One of my degrees is visual arts with a focus on dark photography. I still have a really dark photo studio (but don't use it anymore). I personally put thousands of transparent folders (chips).

Clean old movies / slides
Therefore, please correct some incorrect information in previous comments: You can develop old films and slides in water. Do you think we will develop any developer / pigeon plug / fixer for the movie once the development is complete? We used water! Distilled water is not luxurious, just click on the water. Then we attach the film to the ceiling clip to dry the drops. After drying, we use scissors to cut the entire paper roll into a manageable paper (or cut the transparent film into each frame and split it into stand films). When washing with alcohol, streaks and dry stains may remain. Moisturizing agents can be added to the final rinse water (two drops of detergent per gallon of tap water). This completely removes dry spots. Of course, distilled water is now available because there may not be a photo gallery near you where you can buy a moisturizer. I have 99 cents per gallon of distilled water at the store.

Guess what the last color was when we developed the printouts on paper (color, black and white) ... I guess! Old tap water is normal! If you are using photo paper from the 1950s or greater, you can dip it in water to remove stains! Basically, nothing will go wrong as long as the Civil War waters do not contain a negative silver plate!

Water makes films and paper extremely soft, easy to wrinkle, and dries again.

However, as long as the film is in good condition, it is best to use a dust container to detonate the dust. Dust out this scanner at regular intervals.

Reasons to buy EPSON V600

Although I still have Umax Powerlook III, which costs around $ 1,700, only one scan can be done at a time. I want to create a new simple scanner that my dad can use to scan his old slides: 54 circles with slides (in a loop), each circuit can contain up to 100 slides. If you use this 2400 dpi scanner and save it once in JPG format (no / less compression), 48 bit color pressure results in just over 4MB for the file and each file closes at about 10MB the scanner can reach Up to 128,000 dpi, but this is an overstatement of our current use: look at our old photos and send online print services to print 16 x 20 inches from time to time.

Clear slideshow settings

I installed the CD software, then connected it to the computer and finally I ran it using the HIDDEN ON / OFF button on the right side of the device. CD and internet manuals indicate that you are using a square with Qatari read arrows, but it is FALSE, FALSE, and FALSE! Contrary to description there is an on / off switch. In this regard, the attached quick guide is correct.

For decent scanning, it's a good settings menu:

Status = Professional
File type = positive
Image type = 48 bits
Resolution = 2400 dpi
Select the Uninstall checkbox and set the level to “Low”
Select the "Restore Colors" check box to open it.

No more checks.

Click Preview, select all flipped slides, and rewind them with options
When scanning all four transparencies, click Scan, Sit & Wait (Scan in less than 4 minutes, Auto Label, and Auto Save).

Real project:

It takes one minute to clear each slide. Automatically named and saved.
54 boxes of 100 slides = 5400 slides.
This 5400 minutes corresponds to 90 hours. In an old atmosphere, it would take about two and a half and eight days. Completely actionable!

Scan discs smaller than 5MB at a time, so we can collect up to 5MB.
5400 x 5MB = 27000MB or 27GB.
It is a nice! 27 GB perfectly fit in an inexpensive 64 GB USB stick!
It also works with about 7 DVD-Rs. Pin Like $ 100 DVD-Rs At $ 20, Lol!

So: Take this; get an aerosol can. If your total assets are too big, use distilled water, a 64GB USB drive, and a DVD-R +.

How could it be

Some other "scanners" are inexpensive and claim to scan per second. These are cheap webcams stuck in cheap plastic boxes and can pick up a rough movie for you. You will get better results if you click the slide / negative in the window and take pictures with your phone! Very poor quality. Epson also scans paper prints because they are flat.

Yes, it's a little slower at about a minute's rate for each movie (2400dpi), but you can save a little time and scan at 1200dpi, up to 100dpi, lol. It depends on how you use it. Internet / Facebook, then 100-300 dpi. Print a large poster with your photos: set 128,000 dpi and tap the bottom margin. Except for everything in between. Basically, the price ranges between $ 50 and $ 100, which is almost guaranteed to be disappointing. And $ 200 is pretty cool.

One minute per slide is much slower than one second per slide. I prefer spending two weeks doing 5,400 scans, then 5 hours for a bad scan that looks terrible, and finally deleting it.

Disadvantages
This is great (because it can wipe real paper too).
It is heavy (very heavy and of good quality).
It has a strange feather on top: trying to lift when it is open and falling when it is closed: be careful!
The on / off button was not mentioned in two of these three instructions. It's right near the bottom, haha.

What is happening (to the United States) and what has happened?
First, use professional slideshow mode. Simplified automatic mode has the following drawbacks: Only 1200 dpi scanning and higher settings are allowed. Even though it's 1200 dpi, it seems to take longer at 2,400 dpi than the Professional mode. Although the evidence says that you can ignore the preview ... one preview will be created and the preview will be displayed while scanning, which means that the preview portion takes four times. Also when selecting the option "Decrease color": a small preview of colors has been restored, but not digitization! It is a strange error in the program. Therefore: This requires a length of 2 x 4, and color restoration does not apply to scans that are automatically saved on your computer. Another problem is that you cannot unzip the mask in automatic mode! So: If you want to scan, restore, and highlight colors, you should use Professional mode (and select “All” 4 previews with a “All” preview 4 Preview and blue fields after the previews and then activate the “Minimize” colors checkbox!) Use Professional Mode.

48-bit color is much better than 24-bit color. Not only choose the network, but also easy to find. Create 24-bit flat blocks as JPGS overprint from the 1990s, lol. Make sure to use the 48-bit option.

In principle, I'm not going to activate ice / dust correction because it does two things: slow the wipe / wipe process; it can do strange things in certain pictures. I found her in a number of pictures, but doing strange things with human eyes glowed in the pictures and made her crazy. We prefer watering cans.

I am confused about the grain removal settings, but it blurs my test strip. Yes: if the image is blank, it is difficult to see the pill. You have deactivated the lesson function. If you want, you can distort the analysis at any time in the future.

Red-eye reduction: I think you can use this app if you have 500 red-eyed people (with flash reflections on the camera), but I do keep it because I don't know natural pictures can be chosen randomly or even photos without image processing. The people among them. Why is there an opportunity?

Uninstalling the mask: Sharpness improvement is still at a later time; however, if the volume is too large, repair is difficult. Sharpness increases the color value between two adjacent colors (thicker oceans). The sharpness function is really cool, so set it to "low". Good security bet.

Restore color: Wow! I wouldn't have used it professionally in the past, but it worked well with Kodak EktaChrome and KodaChrome chips in the 1970s and 1990s. I mean, use this checkbox. It may take 10 minutes to reach PhotoShop. Not even on the slide, I think it's very good. Use it!

You also need other parameters: Deactivate the replacement file with the same name (Why should I overwrite a previous analysis? Waiting for an accident). I think the serial number (1,2,3 ...) should be called. I changed the default names from "Img" to "Slide" so they would leave "Slide001", "Slide002" and so on.

File type: I chose uncompressed JPG (1 in 100). You can also choose TIFF. Jpg is very good, honestly. If you are a (paid) scanner, I save it as a TIFF file. Lost (do not delete color information). JPEG has come a long way, if you set it to low voltage then no problem. The TIFF is still great. However, once you scan it and remove the film, scan it large and save it in TIFF format for life. To be honest, JPEG is good: in one setting, you won't see any digital artifacts that prevent JPEG even if you zoom in. In most cases (online / social / TV / player / BluRay / etc), JPEGS (even) seems to play better (as long as JPG is set to 1 without compression), TIFF and JPG are not that big. Unexpectedly, the default squeeze setting is approaching 100, which looks fine, haha. Set it to 1 and forget it. Your excellent picture is still worried? Then set it up to save as a TIFF file, and you no longer have to burn DVDs in a large project - not as big and cheap as the current DVDs. On the day of publication, the question was: TIFF = files that were sent to the reserved printer and files that were sent to the compressed archive; online databases and JPGS CDs for educational purposes. Choosing an option is important, but not much now, because you can basically stop JPG compression. Then it mostly works like TIFF, but it still works fine via internet / TV software, etc.

If you set this scanner bit rate to just 24 bits, you'll get a spot spot color, just like a very compact JPG in the 90s! That's why I said to use 48 bits.

The first time you open Epson Scan, you can also clear the "Include color profiles" check box in advanced setup options. If you do not send the file to a professional printer that requires a specific color profile, this will only reduce the size of all scans! Not interested in LAB COLOR, CMYK, and Srgb ICC profiles, if you are our professional (for printer I mean someone with big color pressure about 40 feet long) prints photo before / if we ignore color profiles which are mistakenly left in image files, We send them emails because they want to control the colors and not some random files that we haven't seen, changed, repaired or permanently maintained. If you're not a professional photographer sending color print leaflets that require long-term color segments, uncheck the box and save your computer space. Although you sent a scan to the National Geographic cover, I feel like you changed your profile settings when printing the magazine.

Use a table lamp of transparencies to flip and organize it. The light also helps you understand the bright side, the creamy side with the raised lines. The lotion is in front of the ceiling. If you do not have a lighting box, place the fluorescent lamp under a clean glove box or other manufactured container.

I took out four slices, grabbed my fingers, placed the separators between them, grabbed the edges of them, and let me flow between the four at the same time. Fast and easy! Take the time to organize your office and work area, and you can save days after the project ends.

Work routine
Each box containing 100 slides is given a new folder on the desktop. It was named after all the names in the old box.

Activate mathematical operations and a scanner.
Click Epson Scan
Choose "Professional" and "Current Settings"
2400DPI
Select the checkbox to restore color
Check far / medium harp
Sprinkle with dust and divide into 4 parts.
Click Preview
Click one of the four previews (instead of the small checkbox) and it will be highlighted in the blue box. Use the "E" spin handle to rotate all shaded preview images.

**** A very important step from the right: click the "All" button to mark the four overviews with a blue border, then click "Restore the Color Restore to Yes" check box / (The Restore Colors function automatically closes after each preview, when opened again , And only to preview the surrounding blue box!). It's for the "pluses" and they get only one color in 4 slides.

Click "Scan."

Replace 4 slides.
Repeat this process 193 times. After reaching 4 GB, save, drag and burn DVD to ThumbDrive. Then drag it and copy it to an external hard drive.
The deletion looks at the computer.
Repeat 7 more times.
Fill the cork in champagne ... done! In fact, you may want to drink wine throughout your project, as wiping is a boring process. For this reason I became a librarian. Yes, becoming a librarian has become more exciting than being a scanner operator. Haha!

Record to DVD.
Save on a USB stick.
Store on an external hard drive with an external docking station (1 TB, $ 49) - delivery ($ 20).

Store slides in a cool place.
The USB stick is several places in different regions.
Put a copy of the DVD in a different location.
Check out our chips and get another TV casting tool! Many Blu-ray players also accept USB sticks (or simply download the burned DVD and view pictures).

In addition to copying to the desktop computer to which this scanner is connected, 3 different archiving modes are available (USB stick, DVD-R +, external hard drive).

Move the glossy slice (matte emulsion face down).

If you spend more money and spend more time, you will benefit from a very useful survey.

My father and I worked on this project. Dark movie / photographer studio and auto engineer. From 1997 to 2007 I was an expert in digital photography, and I am now a librarian. It took a few days to buy Epson v850 for $ 1,000. I searched for 15 minutes and already asked for the V600 (about $ 200). Haha, it is logical.

Look at the photos people posted as examples of Wolverine and Chaos troop rankings: I wouldn't even say a few pictures! Not to mention measuring digital quality.

If you have the time and money to use this device, you will not be disappointed with the results.

Computer (We have a two and a half year old Dell computer with i5 processor, Windows 10, hard drives and non-hard drives)
Scanner
dust
USB stick (archive 1)
Blank DVD (if multiple copies are sent to different parents, archive 2 or more)
External hard drive (archive 3)
Duration: one minute per slide

This is heavier than the 25-year-old Umax PowerLook III scanner that I used in a multi-million dollar publishing empire. Of course they all released and sent the job to China / India. They didn't sell my computer, but Umax was cheap! I don't know who's back from a Nikon CoolScan chip scanner (with ADF) haha!

If you are looking for a simple, high-quality solution that requires multiple editable user parameters (and simple parameters), use them! !!

You only have one month to scan 50,000 slides? Sign a contract with the seller to sell it for 60 cents per slide, then sell an external hard drive with a check ... more shipping ... faster service. In addition to insurance, if you lose them, you can save a few dollars if you send out all the slides instead of pictures. You get $ 300 and lose the fear of losing invaluable and irreplaceable photos.

By the way, for my 5400 chipset, the scan can cost at least $ 3,240 (the higher the load, the higher the hard drive for the new analysis, etc.).

For so much money, I can buy an Epson V600 and pay a friend, fictional, imaginary, and student Craigslist for $ 3,000 for the actual survey!

If you provide something: project planning templates / parameters / costs and some simple starting parameters for simple segment analyzes. I hope that helps you.

By the way, the thing is packed in a big box. Everyone thought I had bought a new TV.

Conclusion: This is the second day of ownership, and although we took the time to test the parameters, install the light box, remove dust and remove dust from boxes 54 with 100 round wheels, we managed to delete two boxes with 54 wheels! Not so bad! It will snow tomorrow, which means we can get two more boxes. Our massive archives will be completely deleted in about a month. We hacked some USB scans and connected them to BluRay: SO COOL by seeing our photos! !! !!

Do not waste time buying cheaper scanners.

The only attraction is that after each batch of 4 slides, the "Restore Color" check box is not selected and the check box itself is deactivated. Therefore, you need to select the four previews, then select the "Reduce color" check box, and then click "Clear." However, it takes about two seconds and much faster than going to PhotoShop and trying to color correction. I can spend 5 to 15 minutes correcting color in RGB color image, and more time printing CMYK image (guide, magazine, book cover, etc.). After dozens of operations, you no longer have to think about it: your hand taps on “all”, “color correction” and “scanning”. Muscle memory.

It is also interesting that two "invisible" power switches were incorrectly identified in three manuals (online, on CD, printed start instructions).

Good luck and have fun, spend a day or two scanning and rechecking some documents for the perfect settings and workflow for you!
