Report: 2020 might be the best year to buy a smartphone or computer

A new report by market research firm Gartner predicts that smartphone sales to the world's largest manufacturers will resume after two years of weak growth.

Global mobile phone sales are expected to increase by 1.7% by 2020, as the report points to increased interest in a new generation of smartphones that support 5G networks. There will also be strong demand in China. 1.8 billion cars will be sold in 2020.

Due to the shortage of exciting new products that allow consumers to service their existing devices, mobile phone sales fell 2% in 2019 to the lowest level since 2010. At the end of 2018, analysts said the industry was in one real recession.

To compensate for the low demand for new devices, companies such as Apple are increasingly relying on smartphone-related services and products. Last year, it launched Apple TV + and Arcade. In July last year, for the first time since 2012, iPhone sales accounted for less than half of Apple's total sales.

Apple's competitors, including Samsung from South Korea, continue to dominate the smartphone market, but sales have fallen. The company recently announced the appointment of a new CEO for the wireless sector.

There are positive signs on the market in 2020, Gartner said. The large increase in the number of 5G mobile phones and 5G networks will significantly increase the download speed of consumers, which means they can download or play HD movies in a few seconds.

(Ranjit Atwal) - Gartner Research Director: Since customers want to buy 5G devices, there will be a slight recovery in 2020. Gartner estimates that fifth-generation cell phones will account for 12% of total sales and 43% in 2020. From Apple is expected to launch the fifth generation of the iPhone in 2020. As iPhone users continue to upgrade, this may lead to an increase in sales of older devices. According to Gartner, sales of 5G devices should reach 50% of sales by 2023.

Although the recovery is expected by 2020, analysts' estimates for 2021 and beyond are uncertain and could increase sales. At the same time, according to Gartner estimates, since Windows 10 has become the main operating system for all current devices, customers have found fewer reasons for upgrades, so PC sales are expected to continue to decline.
