Facebook is taking new steps to distinguish publications and government media

Facebook announced today that it will start reporting to Russian, Chinese and other governmental organizations, and plans to ban all ads for these users in the U.S. in the summer of 2020.

Some of the institutions that will be different are Russia Network (Sputnik), (Iran Press) Channel and (Xinhua) China. (Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook's Cybersecurity Policy Officer) said in an interview: This decision does not affect the American media. Because she believes that even the media organizations run by the US government have editorial independence.

Facebook admitted that it had not prevented Russia from using its program to interfere with the 2016 US presidential election. Facebook announced a comprehensive plan last year to create a poster to distinguish ads and government media.
