Amazon acquires self-driving Zoox

Amazon announced on Friday it has acquired Zoox, an emerging automotive-focused startup that marks a new step in hunting down e-commerce giants in the industry.

The company said in a statement: The deal will achieve "ZOOX vision of advanced independent leadership." She added that (Zooks) will continue to operate as an independent company on Amazon, and that CEO (Aisha Evans) and founding partner of the company and CTO (Jesse Levinson) will continue to lead the company. 'the team.

Although the terms of the deal have not been released, the Financial Times previously reported that Amazon would pay more than $ 1.2 billion to purchase Zooks.

"ZOOX can envision a world-class independent driving experience, innovation and design," Geoff Wilck, CEO of Amazon Global Consumer Industry, said in a statement. He added: "Because they are Amazon, Zooks are passionate about innovation and its customers, and we look forward to helping the talented team (Zooks) achieve their vision in the coming years."

Although Amazon acquired Whole Foods for $ 13.7 billion in 2017, this new deal is important because most of the acquisitions are valued at just $ 1 billion.

It's not clear what Amazon plans to do with Zoox technology, but it can integrate it into its logistics network to provide cheaper and faster delivery solutions, as well as non-cash grocery stores.
