After the US ban MediaTech requested permission to supply Huawei

Taiwanese chip design firm MediaTek (MediaTek) announced Friday that new US restrictions will take effect in mid-September due to escalating tensions between China and the United States. As a result, it has submitted an application to the US government for approval to continue supplying Huawei to Chinese companies.

In early August this year, the Trump administration expanded restrictions on Huawei and banned suppliers from selling chips made with this technology to Chinese companies without special permission.

According to analysts, MediaTech could be one of the biggest hits of the recent restrictions. MediaTech announced that it will comply with relevant global trade regulations and will request shipments from Huawei after September 15th.

"MediaTech has reaffirmed its compliance with the relevant regulations and rules governing global trade and has sought US approval under the rules," the company said in a brief statement.

US measures announced earlier this month filled potential loopholes from previous sanctions in May that could allow Huawei to purchase chips through third parties using US technology.

The restrictions highlight the growing friction in Sino-U.S. Relations as Washington urges governments to put pressure on Huawei and says the company will provide Beijing with data on espionage charges. Huawei denies spying on China.

TSMC, the world's largest chip maker, announced last month that it had stopped receiving new orders from the Chinese telecom and smartphone giant in May and that it would not ship after September 15th.
